Can I use turpentine to take it ?** A: Yes you can. Try using Winsor & Newton Distilled Turpentine. Take a LINT FREE white cloth and dab it in a small amount of the Turpentine and rub GENTLY on the area of varnish. Stop rubbing if the whit cloth starts picking up the color of the paint. Continue working in small areas until you are satisfied the varnish is sufficiently gone. During the operation, change the cloth out frequently or at least the area of direct contact so the cloth is picking up the varnish and not just smudging it around. Remember, work in a small area at a time. Also don't worry if there is a small of varnish still on the painting as you can still paint over the varnish. You'll just have to allow extra drying time for the entire painting before fully varnishing the finished painting. Try to dry the painting in a horizontal position so any of the heavier varnish doesn't pull the paint down from weight. Hope it works out well!
