Hanna Instruments HI3812 Single Parameter Hardness Test Kit, For 100 Tests

Instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The test results are quiet accurate as far as I can tell. I've used the kit to test if my water softener is working, and to set it to correct water hardness level. The only minor inconvenience is that the test kit gives results in ppm, while water softener accepts results in gpg. Would be nice if the conversion table was included in the kit, but there are plenty of online converters available.

Simple enough to use. Fairly basic high school chemistry, though you don't need to understand what's going on to follow the directions and get a result. I have determined that my water hardness varies from week to week - I have measured from 8 to 10 grains. The instructions do not result in an answer in grains, but the conversion is on the internet.

This kit has detailed instructions, which is good, because you will need them to make sure the procedures are executed correctly to get good results. My sixth grade daughter used this kit for a science experiment and had a few problems getting the right number of drops to come out, but overall she found the test kit easy to use.

Okay, I don't know every instance somebody would test water hardness, in my case it was for setting up a water softener. You set your water softener for hardness grains, not hardness ppm which are the results of this test. I found a conversion calculator on the internet, but there are easier test out there. I couldn't get the low range hardness test to read out at all, I don't know why; but I'm not a retard. The high range hardness test read the same after converting it to grains as another easier testing method I got from work I used for redundancy. I'm very color blind. Not completely, mind you, but pretty badly. I had no trouble seeing the color change in the liquid. The kit helped me verify that my water is in fact, very hard. The instructions are easy enough to follow, but you have to have some patience. Overall, the kit does what it says at a reasonable price. As much as I need to test water, it will last a lifetime.

Very accurate instructions and the hardness of water measured is also very accurate. I haven't tried going for more accurate measurement of water using the bigger vessel given but I could see the effectiveness of my water softener with this product. Based on hardness of incoming water I can set the softener to remove all hardness.

I used his and a freshly calibrated TDS meter, same results from both. I can see this as a control for testing and calibrating equipment.
