No, it's designed to be closed by gravity. If you flip it any other way, it won't close by default. Additionally, flipping it upside down could encourage water or rain to enter your house.

Can the dryer vent cover be painted?

Our metal products are made out of stainless steel, and stainless steel is paintable. So, yes, these can be painted. Please refer to Google for the best results when painting stainless steel.

Can this be used to vent a gas space heater?

Dryer exhaust temperatures range from 100 to 145 degrees, if hotter please remove the rubber gasket
