Is the trunk to the statues left?

Hi sorry for the delay. As I face the front of the statue of Lord Ganesha his trunk is on my right angled down to touch his right hand. Obviously looking at Him from behind it is his left hand . Seen any number of images with trunk either side and even straight up in some modem illustrations. Love the image but am not an adept so I am unsure of the significance or which portrail is correct. Hope this helps in some small way. X
