so far so wood. I used this with the lump charcoals. Easy to start the fire.

My first test with this bbq electric starter, in a word: impressive.Ambient temperature 58F, humidity 25% with a fuel source of axe breaker large lump charcoal. The initial preheat of the bbq starter was 45 seconds prior to directing at coal source.After 45 seconds warm up time: time to first bright orange ignition of large lump coal: 30 seconds. Repeated 6 times, 30 seconds average time to initiate burn.Electric burner held at 1/2 inch from the chunk of coal then moved to another spot, total time 1 minute including initial preheat of 30 seconds.My kamato reached 400F in 16 minutes, with 6 different burn locations and full open vents.Conclusion, this electric starter is very fast to start a bbq Kamato grill under conditions stated. The quiet fan is an added feature to fan the initial coals greatly increasing the fire. Very happy with this starter. Well made, quick, quiet and ease of operation with a pull of a switch. I have received nothing for this review.

Starting a wood fire used to be a pain in the butt where you had to start with paper, then cardboard, to small sticks of wood before you could build a fire up to burn logs, then you would need regular wood logs before you could burn high energy sawdust logs. But with this charcoal electric lighter I can start with paper & immeadiately skip to logs this charcoal lighter is great at being able to condition a fire to light fast & burn hot. Even when fires in a fireplace are get going they can put themselves out without conditioning the burning logs with this charcoal electric lighter I don't need to stoke the fire near as often, & keeping it going if the fire dies out only take a few seconds of run time to get it hot. Works great & glad I got it.

I don't thing this product does not work as well as my Looftlighter. It seems to not be as hot so it was slower to get he fire going. It was a lot cheaper and probably worth the lower price. I got it as a gift for someone and got to use it over the holiday with them.

After three weeks (4 times) use, I am pretty enthusiastic about the MIGI WOLF Electric Charcoal Fire Starter. Some other review mention issues with longevity, and obv. it has to be seen if it holds up.That said, the thing functions flawlessly. It is basically a very long, electric blowtorch. Its a bit awkward to handle, and a pistol like grip would have make it much easier, but it is by no means difficult.In less than five minutes of blowing how air, it will light up a small pile of charcoal, suitable for our portable Weber 121020 Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill. I let the coal stand and warn thru for another 10 minutes, and the grill is good to go.The process creates almost no smoke, and only a minimal amount of flying embers, compared to using our old Rapidfire Chimney Starter. And it takes up less space.

Within two months of use (after the return window), the igniter starts cycling off one or more of the heating elements, in something like 30 second cycles. (Undoubtedly some overheat safety feature that's not engineered or manufactured robustly enough.) With one element off, it won't light anything. So you have 30 seconds on, 30 off, 30 on, 30 off... You get the idea. Super frustrating. I bought one of these from a different seller/mfr that lasted two years. A second one lasted one year. This one not even two months. Give it a miss. (Update: Took it apart, removed the thermal "safety" device and hardwired it - problem solved for me. YMMV.)

This takes a long time to produce flame on charcoal. Holding the thumb trigger back for 10 minutes to start a fire is no fun. If there was a locking mechanism that would be better. I've started using a lighter and burn cubes. Once you have some coals, this thing DOES help spread the heat, but getting to that point takes a while.

Very easy to use. I did find that when lighting my green egg It’s faster when I light the lump coal pieces from the previous use first since they are already half lit. Fast lighting fireplace and anything else. A great value if it holds up. I’ve only used 4 times so not sure how long it will last but it’s a great value even if it lasts a year or 2.

I read some negative reviews before buying this but bought it anyway. I’ve done about 20 smoking projects on domestic pit smokers since buying this and it has been unfailing. Follow the instructions. Hold it very close to your wood charcoal lump until you see some glowing ember and then pull it back to about 10 inches to provide concentrated air flow and oxygen to spark the fire. The product works, hasn’t failed me yet even after getting a little rain on it (not recommended) and also comes in about $50 cheaper than the alternatives.
