TOPENS TEW3 Vehicle Sensor Exit Wand

We bought the Topens AT1202 dual swing gate opener, the Topens TC175P wired keypad, the Topens TC102 photo eye beam sensor, the Topens ET24 electric gate lock, the TEW3 exit wand, the TCS3 solar charge controller and the TSP30W 30w solar panel charging kit early last year. My husband and I installed the system ourselves. We had never installed a gate opener before. The AT1202 gate openers are easy to install if you follow the instructions in the user manual. They have been in use for over a year now. We added the TC175P keypad to our system so friends and family could have their own access codes. We decided to install the TC102 photo eye beam sensors because they open the gate if crossed while gate is closing, so we have more time to get through. Works great when taking the trash cans out to the road. We installed the ET24 electric gate lock but it seemed to not work quite right. We aren’t sure if we didn’t install it right, but it’s close. Our gates are solid, not a lot of movement so we thought we had it lined up as good as we could. It worked mostly, but the few times it didn’t release right while the gates were trying to open, we decided to unlock that permanently to keep from possibly damaging the gate actuators. Our gates close tight when they shut and so we find the lock serves no purpose in our application. Because our gates are at the other end of a steel bridge, the TEW3 exit wand had to be installed further than recommended so the bridge didn’t interfere with the wand seeing as metal is what triggers it to work. We added the TCS3 solar charge controller and TSP30W 30W solar panel charging kit in case we ever loose power. We have lost power a few times and the gates open a little slower when only using the solar side. They also didn’t open as far. But we were still able to get through. We are extremely happy to have the openers and so thankful we did it. Any little thing comes up, which has only happened so far at my wrongdoing, I email the Topens Customer Support with a description of my issue and they have always responded with help until the problem was resolved. When we were installing this system, I got frustrated a few times and it was reflected in my email to them, and they never gave up helping me.

Easy to connect. You do not have to bury it too deep either. I have mine located about 15' from center of driveway and works perfect everytime. Nice so people can just leave and let themselves out of the gate easily.

DO NOT BUY!!! Read complete review!!! Updating review 11/12/21. Customer service is amazing. They reached out to me, sent me a new one and followed up to make sure everything works. New sensor is working good with no issues. Shelley With Topens is by far the best Customer service agent I have ever had the pleasure to deal with. Update as of 4/29/2023 So the first initial wand failed within a year. Topens Customer support stepped in and made that right. So here I from purchase in 2020 to not even a year later having to dig up and replace this wand. This wand was replace in November of 2021. And now April of 2023, the Topens Wand has failed again. So i got less then a year from the first one, and a year and months out of the second one. So of coarse it is out of warranty, but tried anyways. And of coarse Topens will not warranty it, not because it is out of their 1 year warranty, but because there is not a warranty on the replaced item. Only the original purchase. So 2 wand that cost almost $200 can not even last 2 years without having to be replaced. The product is crap. Customer service was originally good, but if I have to replace this product ever year, then it is not worth the money to begin with, lets not forget that ever time this things STOPS working, I have to dig it up to replace it. DO NOT BUY!!!! Keep in mind, if their wand fails this much and this fast, how well do the rest of Topens products hold up. Biggest mistake ever made was Purchasing a Topens gate open system. Definitely will find a different brand when the main components fail. Which judging by the way their wands hold up, I am sure wont be much longer.

I purchased a complete Topens Dual Gate Opener setup (A La Carte) including: PW502 Opener, TC196 WiFi Remote, ERM12 Remote, TC175P Wired Keypad, TEW3 Vehicle Sensor Wand, and ET24 Gate Lock. After setting up and adjusting the gate travel, everything works as expected. One significant issue I had to work thru with the support staff at Topens was the inconsistent operation of the TC196 WiFi Remote that works via your smartphone. Although my indoor setup is well within the 230 meters from the gate controls (mine is about 50 meters at the most), the operation was inconsistent. It may work one day and not that afternoon. After several exchanges with Topens support, they suggested an external antenna ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094MW1YMV/) that has fixed the issue. One additional tip I would offer is when you are setting up the TC196, the "paring" sequence MUST be done as fast as possible. It appears the main board only has a few seconds to press the momentary switch on the main board, then press "A" on phone, have lights flash and press "A" on phone again. It took me multiple tries to get it programmed. Again, after solving the issues with the TC196, all the operations of the gate and related components appear to be working as expected. Thanks again to the support at Topens for assistance in getting everything working!

The design needs some work. Works well when it sees the vehicle. So many vehicles have a lot of fiberglass instead of metal. It does not respond to fiberglass.

The exit wand made the Topens gate system I installed a lot more practical when leaving the from inside the property. Installation was a breeze. I did have issues with the unit 8 months after installation though. I contacted customer support (Zack) and he provided me with trouble shooting for the system. After we went through the steps to diagnose the problem, the wand was defective, Zack sent out a new wand, at no charge! I cannot say enough about the customer service, it was really nice to have competent people at the other end of the line. Edit: Well after 7 months working it quit again, same issue, the wand was NFG. Contacted customer support and the warranty on the “original “ purchase was over. As stated by the customer support “your warranty is over, please purchase another.” I stated that this was basically a new product and that the warranty should have been extended, they said that’s not the case, warranty is on the original purchase only…..doesn’t that blow all?!?! You think I’ll purchase something that has a pretty high failure rate? Not a chance!

Bought in 2024 but was not able to use until now. Ground froze before I was able to install. Exit wand works good and it is nice when company leaves and you do not have to go open the gate with your remote. Note they say you should use auto close feature on gate with the exit wand.

Piece of junk. Not worth the money. No proper instructions. Couldn't get to work properly. Save your money. Don't buy it. Buy the 50 -0CP-4 plug and play.

Works pretty good. I buried the wand at 6” but need to drive within a couple of feet to activate. It worked great when it was sitting on top of the ground so I’m going to bring it up a couple of inches so it has better range.
