but he could easily be considered one of the strongest people of all ...
Hermann Goerner is not a household name, but he could easily be considered one of the strongest people of all time. Goerner lived from 1981 to 1956 and performed with Pagel’s Circus in South Africa, where one of his stunts was to wrestle with an elephant. At the beginning of the tour the elephant weighed in at 700lbs. but by the end was over 1,500lbs. How’s that for progressive strength training? One of his challenge feats was a stiff-arm, one-hand snatch of 169.75lbs. This is amazing enough and far beyond the abilities of most people, but it was made all the more incredible when you realize it was done on a barbell with a 2 3/8ths-inch shaft! What may be even more amazing is his right hand-only deadlift of 727lbs. Absurd level of strength and training methodology!

iron game legend
herman goerner was one of the strongest men who ever lived, and possibly the best deadlifter ever! this was pre steroid era so all the pumpers should have no excuse why they cant even deadlift their bodyweight( oh I cant deadlift I have a bad back, yet theyre doing barbell cheat curls with 95 pounds and their backs bent backward, ha ha) nevertheless a great book about a great lifter, from a time period where people trained for strength and their health, not just how pretty they looked!! buy this book and support the old school physical culture.

Informative, inspiring and entertaining
Anyone who has an interest in strength training or the history of physical culture needs to read this book. Not only are the feats of strength performed by Goerner truly mind boggling but his approach to training, nutrition and his intuitive sense of the body is also enlightening.

I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning more about Hermann Goerner
I purchased the paperback copy of this book, as I always prefer the real thing over a download. I am interested in the history of Strength, the old Strongmen and feats of strength etc. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and learning more about Hermann Goerner. I have re-read many times some of the amazing feats this man performed, especially the enormous poundages with kettlebells and thick barbells he could hoist overhead. There are many records and accounts of his colossal strength, with some beautifully written descriptions. If you have a keen interest in Iron Game History I would definitely recommend it, especially for less than £8!
