a good general overview - a good starter
This book does a good job covering the basics of working with the older adult population. It makes some good points, and even more useful, directs you to other sources that may be more specific to your needs. It's no bible for working with older adults, but I don't think it was meant to be.

working with older adults
It is abit outdated now. Alot of the Older Adults coming in Nursing Facilities for Rehab do not have supportive family to help them connect with a psychotherapist. This book is good in the world of yesterday but the world has changed and the worries are different.

great for grad students and professionals
Learning a lot about how to engage in psychotherapy with older clients. I like how the book is positive and respects older clients. It puts a premium on preserving the dignity of the "earlier born."

Best book available for psychotherapy with older adults
Regardless of theoretical perspective, this is an invaluable resource for any mental health clinician working with older adults. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Expensive, badly written and too many subjective opinions that are not completely based on research!

Required reading for my Students
I am a clinical social worker who provides psychotherapy services to older and disabled adults living in nursing facilities, senior housing and their own homes. This book is extremely helpful in conceptualizing the differences and similarities in providing therapy to older adults, and I require all of my practicum students to read this during their their time at our agency. Every client and situation is unique, but this book offers a very helpful overview for a topic that is rarely discussed in graduate school.
