but I understand why a large percentage of people hate on this shirt
This is not to be mean, but I understand why a large percentage of people hate on this shirt... it sounds loose fitting, but it is not designed for the "non-fit" body type. This is a traditional style of tunic shirt. It is 50% hemp, so WILL NOT stretch through the middle. If you have a typical "american" body type, and have a belly, do not get this item as it will not fit. I order a large shirt everywhere else, and here was no different. Large fits just fine. Lastly, this is a handwash, hang dry garment. If you put it in the washing machine you will shrink the cotton, but not the hemp. I've since ordered 2 more of these shirts and love them. Once again though:*If you have a belly, these shirts will not fit you as the 50% hemp fabric will NOT stretch.*

Very nice fit and finish.
I purchased an XL in anticipation of an extended trip to SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam) in the coming rainy season. I have a 43" chest and normal proportions at 5"10 and 180 lbs. The fabric feels great and the shirt is just loose enough that it should be an excellent fit in the heat and humidity we anticipate -- a L would probably have been too close fitting for hot weather comfort for me. The fabric is not at all heavy, it seems a perfect weight for its intended use. Before our trip I will try it out in the typically hot Arizona June weather as a sort of test run. My wife loves its appearance. I have purchased several linen items for the trip and will see if that fabric is a climate friendly as claimed.

Extremely poor construction quality
If you read carefully through the suggestions for sizing and measure yourself you shouldn't have too much trouble getting the correct size for a good fit. The cut of the shirt is such that it's probably 6 inches longer on the torso than you might expect but that isn't too problematic as it's just a different style of shirt. The real kicker is construction quality. When I received the shirt, it was in a bag and had a slight chemical smell-- not uncommon for buying clothes online. I washed it with a small amount of detergent on a cold delicate cycle and removed it to dry on a hanger (It's linen-- basically made for air drying). Once It dried I gave it a proper look over and was pretty disappointed. The seams on the bottom of the shirt had bits of thread pointing every which way (which would have to be trimmed, I thought) and on the left shoulder there was a torn seam. The fabric was frayed so there was no hope of just putting a few loops of thread through it. I didn't even get to put the shirt on and it was already beyond my abilities to repair.Very disappointed with the product, especially for the price.

Probably a nice fit if you're skinny...
This shirt looks nice in the description, as well as on the hangar in my closet. That is where it remains for now, as I cannot wear this shirt. I ordered it in my size (XXL) but it is too tight for me. Let me explain: This shirt, while correct in length, must be designed and cut for tall thin guys who wear "skinny jeans". I am a big guy, NOT a fat guy, I don't have a big gut, but I do have a chest and broad shoulders, and I cannot wear this shirt for any occasion that requires the use of my arms. There is simply not enough room in this shirt to lift your arms without the entire shirt lifting up as well. So, if you are tall and very thin, this shirt will probably fit you well. If not, then I'm afraid that this shirt is not cut out for you. (or me)

More like a boy's cut on the shirt
Think of the small as a boy's small so that no American adult should really order this size. As a woman, I often fit into a Men's small shirt, however there is no way I fit into this shirt unless I want to work at Hooters. There is no additional room in the shoulders either if you are a person who never needed shoulder pads. Order 1 to 2 sizes larger than the chart sizes might reflect. Think of the sizing as Boy's sizes versus Men's. Also very straight cut like a boy's. The material is 50% cotton and 50% hemp. It is not linen. Not a bad shirt otherwise.

Closer to American Sizes than Asian Sizes
I originally posted a 3 star review because the sizing was much, much larger than I had anticipated. The seller saw my review and offered to send me a second shirt free of charge in the correct size, which has caused me to alter the review. As for the actual shirt, the material is a bit stiff, but feels quite durable. Overall, I am pleased with it :)

Not as Expected
The shirt is stiffer than the photo depiction. We bought the “grey blue” and it isn’t blue looking at all. It’s clay color grey. I will attach the photo. I think it runs at least a size too small. If you want that linen type fabric flow, order up at least a size. I’m not sure if I will send it back or give as a gift to someone else. My son, who chose it for the color and cut, doesn’t like it and is disappointed in how different it is from the ad.

Stiff but comfortable.
The shirt runs very small so order at least one size up. Do not be put off by the stiff feel of the new shirt. It is very comfortable and not scratchy. It will soften up a little with washing but, as I said, it looks like it might be uncomfortable but it is not. I love them for hot Texas weather. Just get the size right.
