8” - Portable Digital Photo Album/Frame Viewer with Battery and Portable - D-Light Box (DLB-081) (Black)

With the advent of digital photography came the death of the photo album. Remember when someone could pull these out of a hutch drawer, and you could relive childhoods, revisit great destinations, share photos of the past with generations of the future? Now you stand impatiently while your pal swipes at his phone saying "It's in here somewhere, just a second. Where is that? It's in here." The Digital Foci gives me a bright color display a bit larger than the 4 x 6 prints I used to get! It has internal memory which I can manage in folders (galleries), and will also accommodate my SD card right from my Nikon, or a USB thumb drive. I can select individual photos, scroll through with a joystick, or play them in a slide show with adjustable speed and transitions. It runs on its own internal rechargeable battery for hours on end. I've had it run a slide show on battery power lasting perhaps 4 hours. It will also run off the A.C. adapter (which also charges the unit), so you can leave the display on full time if preferred. Here's the only problem I have encountered: it doesn't want to connect to my Lenovo via USB. It will connect just fine to my IBM T550, so I think it's a software issue in the Lenovo. This is why the review has a low rating for tech support. It is non-existent, and you can't update firmware, as far as I can find out. Some things don't play nice with Windows, and you find a lot of helpful hints about workarounds, but I couldn't make them work (nor could my IT professional at work). Not to knock the Foci. You can use it without USB, and even copy from the USB or SD card to the internal memory. It's handy connecting via USB to a PC, as it allows one to manage and name folders on the internal drive. But for $100, it's not claiming to be a tablet! Well, well, worth it. I may buy another to use as a full time frame in my he-hut.

Two different units, the one I purchased, and the replacement broke down after less than 6 hours of use. The company was very understanding, and tried to work with me, but I can't trust a product that breaks in exactly the same way in the same time frame.

Easy to use, works well

Perfect, except that the instruction manual is very limited. It says that it will automatically turn-off after a set time. I set mine to 10 minutes and it stayed on until it ran out of charge. If left it on slideshow paused. Evidently, you can't do that? Also, it would be much improved if it would automatically turn on with movement or noise. I would also like to be able to shorten the interval between pictures on the slide show. The shortest that I can set it at is 5 seconds. That is pretty long. Long enough to fall asleep waiting for the next picture to come up.

It's everything I wanted. I wanted to be able to show pictures from vacation and the granddaughter without have to print them off on paper. The battery last a long time and charges fast. One more plus, I can take pictures at family functions , take the card from the camera put it in the viewer and start showing pictures right away. If they had it in a larger screen I would have gotten it. For the money and what you can do with it, the money you save from printing off pictures it's worth every dime.
