Easy for beginners. How to use:
This recorder is very easy to use. I recommend this recorder to my students for lectures, but I realized how someone who's never used one may be confused and only want to use this on the beginner level, so here my "Simple 101" way to use this:1. Simply turn it on via sliding down the sliding button on the left side2. Hit the red button "REC" to start recording3. When you've recorded what you've liked, hit the square button "STOP". You can safely power it off now after hitting stop without losing information (aka there is no 'save' button to press).4. To turn off the recorder, do so just like how you turned it on (again, no information will be lost by turning it off).To listen to your recording, simply hit the triangle "OK" button in the middle. Fast forward/rewind by holding the l<< >>l buttons in the middle. These buttons will also cycle through multiple recordings when the recorder is not playing so you can select which recording to listen too. The + and - buttons are for volume. The yellow "ERASE" button is self explanatory.--------------------------------If you're, say.. in college and want to organize recordings by "class", simply hit the "FOLDER INDEX" button and you will see the recorder cycle through A, B, C, D, and E folders (dont be afraid to use that button - you will never leave the same 'basic' record screen that shows when you turn on the recorder unless you hit the menu/scene calendar buttons). You can record the same way as the above steps, the only difference is if you never hit the "FOLDER INDEX" button you will always be in folder A. No big deal. Just remember which folder you recorded in (an image of a folder with either A, B, C, D, or E in it will be on the display screen to let you know which folder you are in). if you cycle through them, so you don't forget later and fear you lost your work.------------------------------If you are having difficulty uploading the recording to your computer and don't understand all the options you have to save/play/open with.. when prompted from connecting it to your computer, a simple way to do so is:1. Right click on your desktop and create a folder labelled "Recordings" (optional)2. Connect the USB that came with your recorder to the recorder and computer. If any pop-up appears asking where to save/play and YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THEM, simply click the X to exit3. From your desktop home screen, Click on Start --> Computer to bring up the Computer folder. Under "Devices with Removable Storage", look for "VN-722PC" to appear.4. Double click on this. When the folder pops up, simply double click on the folder you recorded under (labelled "Folder A" if you've never used the FOLDER INDEX tab, otherwise click the appropriate B, C, D, or E folder).5. Highlight and drag the recordings inside the FOLDER A, into the folder you created on the desktop. This will create a copy of it that you can listen too from your computer. Voila.6. To safely disconnect the recorder from your computer, click on the recorder icon on the bottom right of your screen (next to the battery symbol). A pop-up should appear, click "Eject VN-722PC safely". When it is safe to disconnect, another popup will show saying it is safe. Disconnect now.------------------------------For advanced users, this gives great tune when playing back and the static noise other recorders generate during playback when recorded too close to phones/outside sources is eliminated when you use the telephone option. You can rename as appropriate, upload the recordings into videos, upload to memory chips directly etc. Very functional overall.

Olympus VN-722PC Voice Recorder
The VN-722PC Olympus Digital Recorder offers plenty of recording time packing 4GB of internal memory that can be boosted up to 32GB via a microSD card. Recordings are saved as MP3s so there is no need to convert the files for playback. The sound quality is pretty clear and the battery life is long. The recorder has a fairly sizeable LED screen which makes it easy to see the menus, and there is also a pull out stand at the back that can elevate the recorder at an angle that makes the display easily viewable, the buttons within reach, or the recorder can be pointed in the angled position to a specific direction for better results. The Olympus Recorder also comes with a compact portable USB cable which allows for a simple connection to the computer for downloading and saving recordings to a computer. The only inconvenience is that the cable is a bit on the short side, but that is a minor issue which should not detract from the quality or performance of the recorder. In addition, the manual contains clear instructions combined with plenty of diagrams that make it easy to follow. To sum up, the VN-722PC is a useful, handy product and a good buy.

Nice device but not easy to use
I bought this for my elderly father to use for dictation because he can't write well anymore. Even on "simple mode", it's a lost cause for old people to master, so I decided to keep it for myself. However, as a forty-something year old who's normally really good with technical stuff, I also find it fairly user unfriendly. The fatal flaw is that there are a number of file folders that you toggle through with a button, and the label for the folder is a miniscule letter in the upper left corner of the LCD display that even I can barely read. So it's really hard for anyone, let alone a senior citizen, to know which folder they're recording into. You can simply just start recording in whatever folder you're in and sort it out later on your computer, but it's pretty lame that we have to compromise like this. The other really annoying issue is that when you delete a recording, you have to answer 2 questions before it actually deletes it.Other than these major flaws, it's a nice device and has pretty good sound quality. I feel that all of these dictaphones are kind of similar in that they pack too many bells and whistles in a super compact format that's reminiscent of electronics from the pre-ipod era. I really wish somebody made a simple digital recorder that worked just like old tape recorders- just a few buttons for record, stop, play, rewind, and fast forward.

It's easy to set up and easy to use
I use it for lecture recording. It's easy to set up and easy to use. Most of all, the quality of recorded sound is excellent. The only tiny complaint I have is the design of the buttons - one could accidentally press the Stop button without knowing and it stops recording.

Works great!
This recorder really performed well, right out of the box. Operation is very intuitive, just a few minutes to scan the directions and after that I had the operational details figured out in no time. I would like a bit more battery life, but overall a great little machine.

Good machine with a tinny speaker
Nice little machine. Got it because I needed to be able to transfer files in MP3 format. My only complaint is that the speaker is a pretty cheap affair, producing tinny sound. But if you play a recording back through a decent speaker the sound quality is good--what you would expect from MP3.

You can probably do better, but this will be a very good entry level for sub-$100
After using this unit for few of my lectures, I am satisfied. But just.what i think:- ergonomics of operation. things are very easy to work around with, like menu, setting, and record operations.- size, weight. it's very light and for how it weighs, it seems to be built very well and sturdy. the built-in stand is still a questionable in terms of durability (after all, it's still a plastic).- quality of sound. for what it's worth, it is decent. it's not greatest nor impressive, but it does the job well. I think if you have a money to spend $70 (at the time of purchase) on this, might as well try spending extra $30 and get Tascam DR-05 or Zoom H1. The YouTube reviews on those items are far superior in quality and abundance compared to this.---> I am sort of tempted to return this and get a Tascam DR-05 but my objective was to get a good recorder, and this does a damn good job with it.what I wish it could do or was different:- Although I bought this for lecture recording, there are still small bit of white noise even with kick-stand up or with external mic (explained below) plugged in. Although nowadays, any room have AC running so that's hard to eliminate but you do hear something even in silent room. the external mic helps but that poses another problem, which is...- yes, it does record in Stereo sound. but if you buy the suggested item, Olympus ME-52 Noise Cancelling lavalier microphone, it will ONLY RECORD IN MONO SOUND (left). This can be fixed by audio-editing software but.... why can't we just... have stereo? *sad face*- it runs on 2*AAA batteries. Although these battery types are very common, i still wished it ran on some kind of Li-ion rechargㄷable battery. Personal preference. For what I have used this unit for, it fulfills the duty as handy voice recorder for university students who want a voice recorder. Mind you, you might have to sit rather closer to the front for better audio quality, but it does pick up audio well enough to be audible.// in a nutshell, I believe in buying a high quality once and using it for lifetime. This is great product, but with the things that I'm not most satisfied with, this is only slightly better than a smartphone recorder. I personally would return this and go for something else for a little more money. BUT I'm also poor.....So should YOU buy this?- Do you need a voice recorder, and not just a smartphone app?- Must it be simple to use, but have some settings available for different environmental conditions?- Do you need/want expandable Micro SD slot (up to 32 GB) storage option?- You don't care if it has no LED back-light or Pro-level audio quality.- You (are likely a student and) don't have more than $100 to spend on....if you answered yes to all, then this will be a very good option to consider.
