Concise and reachable treatise. It's a straightforward, no nonsense how to manual. I deeply appreciated how approachable the info was presented. For the most part it's a quick read so you can get started with your practice and have a secure foundation in which to build.

14th century teachings do not cut it in a 21 century world~
Thought this would be an inspirational read given the teacher & translation. Having been a practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism for many years, I looked forward to reacquainting myself with Green Tara practice. Thing were rolling along pretty well til I got to the part where Jamgon Kongtrul the Great (one of the grand pooobahs of Tibetan Buddhism) made the statement that samsara starts when the baby is conceived in the "filthy womb of the mother". That was that. I realized that visualizing abstractions of female has little connection with any actual respect for the female form at all. How does one reconcile being a female practitioner of this tradition, when such misguided and patriarchal views are perpetuated in the 21st century? Yes, Yes, I've heard all the "logic". Ultimately there is no such thing as male and female. They are merely concepts. If that's so, then there's no good argument for perpetuating patriarchy either. We live in a relative world. As the Dalai Lama has said many times: there's ultimate and relative. Do not mix them up. And I'd add do not use such arguments only when it's convenient. Tibetan Buddhism is going the way of the Catholic Church and dinosaurs.

The Profound Essence Of Tara
A superb book which covers a vast scope for its modest size. It explains the practice of Tara from the basic to the most advanced and profound stage. It doesn't contain a sadhana or an explanation of the 21 praises but these can be obtained elsewhere. It contains some very deep material, which beginners may find challenging, as it explains how Yidam practice is comparable with Mahamudra, Dzogchen and all levels of Tantra. So if you are looking for a simple book with the sadhana and the praises, this isn't the one for you. If you are interested a deeper angle on the practice, this is as good as I have ever encountered in a book of this kind.
