My First Prayers for the Whole Year Paperback – Picture Book, September 15, 2018

This is a great little book for bedtime prayers for any Catholic child. We started reading it with a one-year-old (now almost three) and it remains a favorite for its gentle, joyful illustrations and sweet prayers. The family shown throughout has three little children, a cat, and a teddy bear. Each prayer has one large picture, with smaller illustrations around the text on the opposite page.The prayers include ones asking God to bless our family (keeping us happy just like on a wedding day); giving thanks for our baptism, godmother and godfather; asking forgiveness when we are angry; celebrating family life (such as at a birthday party); praying for our grandparents and the deceased; and praying for a good disposition in doing family chores. My early reader has learned a lot of words from this book, so the vocabulary is also appropriate for young children, but it's not "Hop on Pop" level either. Very much recommended.

Littlest can't year the thick pages, 3yo can understand most of the words, and yet these prayers are good enough for Mom & Dad to pray, too. It's really for the whole family.

Love these books! All of the Maite Roche books are great for young listeners. Simple text and appealing pictures. Nice prayers to read before bed.

Title says it all! This is a great book! Adorable colors, illustrations, but BEST OF ALL ARE THE PRAYERS. From now on, it will be my "standard" Baptism or Baby Shower gift. The prayers are simple yet profound. Any thinking adult reading/praying them with the little one will be touched. This is also a very gentle teaching tool for those people who like to have their child Baptized yet don't go to Mass. This little book may help lead them back.....I pray so!

I purchased this book for my grandson (age 2) for Christmas. I am very pleased with the book. It is clear and well written, not too "heavy" for a small child, but not syrupy sweet or cute, either, as many Christian-oriented children's books tend to be. The illustrations are well done and reinforce the concepts in the text. My grandson absolutely loves the book, as well.

This book speaks to children on their level and helps them put into words their prayers for family members. I love to get them praying for others and not only for themselves.

My three year old loves these little prayer books, and has asked me to collect all of them. We read from this one at bedtime sometimes, and she really enjoys remembering others in her prayers.

I bought this book hoping to use it to teach my kids more traditional Catholic prayers, but the book is mostly prayers written for the book. Some of the original prayers are nice but many feature language that is too “childish” - for example, referring to God as “my daddy.” Not a bad book but some disappointing content.

Beautiful little book. My three year old and my I've year old enjoy picking prayers out of it to pray together and it has helped us make prayer a daily thing. My I've qualm is that the binding could be stronger...after a couple of months of daily use the pages are getting loose and wiggly. Otherwise I highly recommend. This is all of Maïte Roche's prayer books combined, with slightly different translations than the individually published versions.
