A Son of the Game

Very enjoyable read and a must before travel to Pinehurst
This book was recommended to me by a friend who is a lifelong North Carolinian. I was going to be attending the US Open at Pinehurst in 2014. He said the book would give me a true flavor of the area, the importance of golf to the area, and the strong family bonds of the locals. He was correct on all counts. It is a well-written bool about the love of golf, the love for a son, and the love of the Southern Pines area. The characters go to various stores, restaurants, and locations in the story, most (if not all) are real. Traveling around the the 10 days I was in the area with friends, we sought out some of the pubs and restaurants. We all felt reading the book prior to the trip enhanced our trip and made us feel familiar to a place none of us had ever been. If you are planning a trip to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area, I would strongly recommend reading this book before your trip. You won't regret it.

Another great read by Dodson for the true golfer and lover of the game
Another great read by Dodson for the true golfer and lover of the game. I’ve also read Final Rounds and his Hogan biography and now can’t wait to buy all his other books based on a captivating writing style and ability to communicate the essence of the game in the written word.

Pinehurst Love Story
A beautifully written book about finding peace in life and enjoying enduring personal relationships. Jim Dodson presents another fine book to stoke the fire of love of golf and the people who play it.

Pleasant Read but nothing special
I've read a few of James Dodson's books and I've found each to be about the same. The books are pleasant, well researched and believable but nothing compelling or especially interesting. I find very little passion, wit or anything deep or moving about his writing style. The best part of the book was toward the end when the author recounted his visits and conversations with "the King" (Arnold Palmer). At those times I felt like I was actually there listening to Arnie speak but otherwise for a story about the author's life, his family, his upbringing and his final return to his roots I felt the book to be rather dry.

Excellent Read for Fathers and Sons
James does a great job of painting a picture regular folks can relate to. I can see myself and the folks I care for dealing with issues of life on every page.

Wonderful Style of writing
I enjoyed Dodson's writing style immensely. It reads like a personal letter to you the reader or a comfortable conversational story. I have his autographed prior book about golfing in Scotland with his dad but haven't read it yet.

Dodson never disappoints!
The authors grasp of the game's meaning ,to those of us who love it ,is as refreshing as his prose. Thank you Mr Dobson.

Five Stars
Great book that I have shared with my son. His son's name is Jack so it was especially meaningful.

I have an extensive collection of books about golf and this is one of the best, if you like a book that contains much personal experience, golf history, descriptions of well-known golf courses and stories and anecdotes about golfers famous and unknown.
