Maytag M400 Steam Iron, M400-SpeedHeat

I just received the " Maytag Speed Heat Steam Iron & Vertical Steamer with Stainless Steel Sole Plate, Self Cleaning Function " last week & all I have to say is that " I REALLY LOVE THIS IRON ", it is by far the best iron I have EVER had or owned. I read ALL the reviews on this iron, before I decided to even by this iron, but since everyone has their personally own view points on what they like or don't like about something or a product, that they buy or get, you still have to be your judge when buying a product & what works for you & your lifestyle, but like I said, I just REALLY LOVE THIS IRON & also loves the way it will just shut itself off, if left to long without using it, but as soon as you pick the iron up to use it again, the light will come on to let you know that it has turned back on & heats up REALY quickly in no time, so that you can get on with your ironing needs & the way it just glides over what you are ironing, is just amazing to me, because the iron I have now, before I bought this iron, really didn't do that or did it really iron the way I like, but that's probably because it was a " REALLY " light weight iron & you had to apply a lot of pressure on the iron when ironing, to get the results you needed, which is NOT AT ALL the case or what the " " Maytag Speed Heat Steam Iron & Vertical Steamer with Stainless Steel Sole Plate, Self Cleaning Function " does for me now. I am SO glad that I decided to purchase & get this iron, so I am a VERY happy person & love ironing now more than ever before & I also love the price of this iron as well. because with even the more high priced irons that you may get, you still might not get the results you really need out of an iron, you just pay a higher cost for them, but this iron does what I need it to do, it's a lot more heavier than the iron I had before, I love the feel of it when ironing & it's also in my favorite color, which is " BLUE ", which is ALWAYS a plus.

WOW. Who would have thought I would write a review about a clothes iron?!?!? This iron is wonderful. Have been using for several months, and can't say enough good things about it. This gets to temperature (even on hottest setting) within 20-25 seconds. You actually hear it click when the thermostat cuts off the heat...when you turn this sucker on, be ready to iron RIGHT THEN because it will be ready. I was a bit concerned about the stainless steel face versus a teflon type of finish...it's great. Glides right over clothes. Because this heats so quickly, I believe it is why it is such a great steam iron because the steam keeps coming out evenly and non-stop as you iron (I have found previous irons would cool off slightly and you might have to wait a few seconds for it to steam again). A small nice-to-have is the little plastic reservoir pouring cup that comes with it...you can fill the cup up in the sink and easily fill the iron with it without spilling water. Would buy this again in a heartbeat.YEARS LATER UPDATE:So I still LOVE this iron. I did have an issue about a year in where I got a warranty replacement due to the stainless plate wearing out from likely too much heat. Kind of weird. Second one has lasted longer. Would just say that I never thought I would prefer a stainless surface over the nonstick/teflon type...won't consider anything BUT stainless from here on out.

I bought the Maytag M400 because my Sunbeam steamer finally gave out after many years of service. I am glad that I bought the Maytag steamer. Here are the things I really like about the iron.It is easy to fill with the small water dispenser that comes with the iron. It makes a click letting me know that it is tightly closed.It has a light indicator that lets me know when it is ready for use and it does heat up in 60 seconds.It steams my cottons beautifully and quickly, and even when I make those little kitten whisker wrinkles in shirts, the iron steams them right out.The reasons I didn't give it a 5 rating are:It is not easy for me to see if the Temperature Control dial is under the small arrow because it is directly under the handle of the Maytag M400.The handle has the steam preference gauge too close to where I have to grip the handle and it bumps right up on my hand and I have a small hand.The water tank is not clear and makes it difficult to see how much water is actually in the tank. Although, I seem to have some water left in the tank after ironing up to 3 pairs of pants and 6 shirts.I have yet to use the self-cleaning option as I have only used it 4 times. At this point, I do like the Maytag M400 and would recommend it to someone who needs a good steam iron.

I was looking to replace a Black and Decker steam iron I had for 30 years and loved. I had no idea how challenging it would be to replace. I tried Rowenta, Sunbeam, and another Black and Decker and then found this gem. I love it!! It is just the right size and weight (others are huge, bulky, heavy), heats up quickly, produces great steam, and glides easily over different materials. The removable water compartment is so ingenious and easy to use. I actually love ironing. Only two small criticisms. It would be better for the water compartment to be clear rather than blue. It's a little hard to see the water line. And I would love for all iron manufacturers to return to a longer and less flexible cord manager. My old iron had a rubber "tube" that was about 3 inches long which kept the cord away from the ironing board and clothing. The newer irons are using a swivel mechanism that is about an inch long so the cord runs right along the ironing board and clothing.
