Review: This is a very helpful book. I love it. - I bought this book before I bought my Canon 5d Mark III. I really wanted the 5D but was a little bit intimidated by the awesomeness of it. After looking over this book I knew that I could understand and use the 5D. I ordered the 5D and began to start learning about this amazing camera. Mr. Cordell wrote this book in a way that anyone could understand it and use the 5D. The book is written in such a way that you can pick out certain chapters and learn them or you can start at the beginning and learn as you go. I cannot believe how much this book has helped me. Great homework book to go along with the Canon 5D. Review: Good, not great - It's a For Dummies book, which tells you what you are getting into. If you have owned a Canon dSLR before (and I think few people start off with the 5D Mark III), then the first few chapters won't help you all that much. The book does a good job of going over functionality, as well as tips for exposure and composition, but this is not an Advanced book. While the author's tone is funny and clear, there are certain topics that are not covered in enough depth. For example, while the HDR functionality is covered clearly, the other Multiple Exposure settings are basically ignored. Definitely a good book if you just got your 5d III, but if you are a pro (and you probably are) there are probably books that are more detailed.

The best book I found for my new camera!
I read at least two other books on the 5D Mark 11. Neither book "flowed" very well. I kept thinking I had to reset things that had already been set. This book was fantastic! It flowed sequentially, explained topics a dummy could understand....and gave me the 'big' picture of the camera that fit nicely with the detailed areas. Would ABSOLUTELY recommend this book for any newcomer to this camera, its new functionalities AND the autofocus system!

Photos are good, descriptions are laid out well
Bought this new 5D Mark three book for dummies. I bought it because it has a lot more detail and easier to follow and understand things that you are looking for. It covers every aspect of your camera. Photos are good, descriptions are laid out well, it's an easy book to read and understand. Would recommend this book to any Canon 5D Mark three users.

Essential Reading for the Canon 5D [or any Canon] user
Canon DSLRs are amazing cameras, but many people have no real idea how to operate them, or what each of the many menu and shooting styles mean. Whats Program vs Manual? Whats a RAW Image? Whats Depth of Field? You get quick simple to the point answers with the "Dummies" series, and this book is no exception. Good photographers can tweak photos to make them look good in Photoshop. Realy Good photographers can do much of the tweaking in the camera. If your shots are too dark, adjust them in the camera, not in PhotoShop. Leanr how to tweak your camera settings. Do I want Auto Lighting Optimzer? This answers the question. I know many photogs who own $4,000.00 camera who are still shooting in Program and asking me why their photos stink. I ask what the manual says. Without fail, they have not read the manual. If you dont at least know how to under and overexpose to compesate for different light, perhaps you shoudl become a plumber. Great book to learn about the 5D and just about any Canon, as many of the parameters here are on just about every Canon DSLR.

Not Exactly What I Expected
This guide may be useful for the person who is not used to the Canon menu system. If you are familiar and experienced with the Canon menu system, you should probably bypass this book and stick with the instruction manual supplied by Canon, for any specific info you may need.

A great resource for the 5Diii owner
I'm a huge fan of the Dummies books especially as a supplement to the OEM manual. I wisely chose to buy one for my first DSLR and it was great source to refer to as I grew into my camera and was able to understand its more advanced features. If you want simple explanations, tips and an easy on the eyes layout, this book meets those needs. I bought another book that was highly recommended in addition to this one for the 5Diii and I'd have to say that although this book comes in a close second, it is definitely adequate if you only wanted one 5Diii reference. The 5Diii for Dummies is a great book for newer or less experienced photographers and has plenty of use for the more experienced. If you're less experienced plan on having your camera next to you as you read this book. That's the best way to learn how to navigate the many menu settings and operations of this or any camera. Don't concern yourself with memorizing and understanding everything at first read. The 5Diii is a pro level DSLR and you'll have to re-read and refer back to this book until some of the more intricate features sink in. Some features may be out of your interest or comprehension for now but as you grow you'll find yourself referring back to this book for reference.

Excellent tutorial and overview.
This Dummies book is well organized and goes to the level of detail I needed as a semi-novice. Particularly helpful was the comprehensive coverage and explanations of the new auto focus capability of the Mark III. Beyond the simple mechanics setting individual functions the author offers good suggestions and rationale for custom user settings. Highly recommended. BJR

A very good read.
The book is well aid out and easy to follow, I wish I had purchased a dummy for my Canon EOS 60D as it is so easy to bookmark a page so that you can go back and forward with total ease, I bought a kindle book for the 60D and I got in such a muddle the kindle is now unused and gathering cobwebs. I found I could follow the author's text in a language which at times puts a smile on my face. His pitfall, safety and tip notes very helpful, you get the impression he has a Mk5 in his hands as he writes, the BEST purchase I have made for a long time. I get the impression I might learn quite a bit from this tome, as it gives me the impetus to try out a lot more techniques I would otherwise not undertake

True to it's word
Having bought the Rolls- Royce camera and set of glass to go with it was exciting , be able to use this magnificent set up is another thing. The book fills in the basics and hints that I should have started with a point and shoot.
