Excellent yogurt maker and a great value
This is the first yogurt maker I have ever used. The thing that most appealed to me about this model is that the yogurt is made in single serving containers so you can flavor each one differently if you choose. Also, the price is very reasonable and the super-saver shipping was an added bonus. I've made a few batches and each one has come out perfectly. The glass jars are durable and have wide mouths so they're easy to clean. The machine is easy to use and comes with very clear instructions. You just plug it in, set the timer, and let it sit. It would be nice to have an automatic shut-off, but you need to refrigerate the yogurt immediately afterwards anyway so this really isn't a big deal. I use packets of yogurt starter and the homemade yogurt comes out mild and creamy every time. Be aware that it does not come with starter, so you'll have to purchase it separately (I found it in the refrigerated section of a natural foods store) or you can use a little bit of store-bought plain yogurt. This is a high-quality product and I highly recommend it!

Good starter for the price
Alright for the price, the timer on mine really did not work. However it took me a while to figure that out. The yogurt was fine and it worked alright. However the glass jars were hard to clean in between. A good brush to clean out and steam cycle on washer machine still have to get in since the glass jars have areas that are dipping down and lips sort of where you have to get in the crannies. This could be designed better and extra glass jars would be nice for when you are waiting for next batch. Also if you use yogurt for other things like making frozen the small jars are not what you want. Overall I continue to use. It is a nice starter yogurt maker.

Love this yogurt maker!
I bought this yogurt maker--Deni 5600, because of the good reviews on Amazon. I'm glad I did. It is so simple to use, I just heat a quart of milk in a pan until a slight boil, then take it off the burner to cool for about 15 minutes. I test it by dripping a few drops on my wrist (like a baby bottle). Then I mix in some powdered yogurt starter, stir and then pore into the little glass bottles that come with the maker. Then, I put the bottles in the Deni, set on the blue lid, plug it up, set the timer for 8 hours and forget about it. When it's done it sounds an alarm I can't ignore until I go and unplug it. All I do then is put the lids on the little bottles, take them out of the Deni and pop into the fridge. Done! The kids love the yogurt with a little honey and almond meal sprinkled on top. We will never buy store bought yogurt again. Not only does the homemade yogurt taste better but it's cheaper and more environmentally friendly--no packaging waste! I highly recommend this little yogurt maker.

Fun with Cooking
I have used this three times now. The first time was a bust--I added the starter when the milk was hot and the yogurt didn't set. The second time was fine and the third was plus-minus. I used yogurt with live culture the third time, but obviously my technique needs improvement. Will ask a friend what she does. Someone else told me that she uses dry starter that comes in a box, and I may look into that. Yogurt is easy to make and I don't want to scare anyone off. Like anything else, you need to be familiar with the equipment. Guess I don't like cooking so much that I love to dabble around. This is a good unit and I'm told you can replace broken jars with baby food jars. One word of warning: the timer alarm will go off at the required time, but it's faint. I guess people complained about being jolted out of bed. Oh, another word of warning. You have to boil the milk and you need to watch it very carefully or you will have a big mess.

Love this yogurt maker
I actually bought this a few years ago and it is still going strong today! Never had a problem with it, the results have been consistant, and the jars are glass instead of plastic, which is a nice bonus. As others have stated, the caps are not leakproof, so if you're travelling with a cup of the yogurt, you need to put it in another container. Cleanup is easier than some have mentioned also...I just use a baby bottle brush and the cups get clean in no time. Great little machine that does exactly what it says it'll do. :-) This product was a personal purchase for myself at the normal retail price. I am reviewing it solely because I want to share my experience with other potential customers. I have received no compensation for my review nor do I have any relationship with the seller or manufacturer of this product.

Smooth, creamy yogurt that is FRESH!!
The reason why I purchased a yogurt maker to begin with was due to reading the book, "Why French Women Don't Get Fat." She said to get a yogurt maker and talked about how good yogurt is for us. I searched on line for a yogurt maker and stumbled across the Deni Yogurt Maker on Amazon. The first try was even the freshest yogurt I have ever had in my life. The second was even better. I boiled the milk, let it stand until room temperature, then mixed the yogurt culture and milk together with a whisk in a pitcher and added it equally to each indiviudal jar. I set it on 12 hours the first try and 10 on the second. I actually think the second was better. The yogurt is so creamy and fresh after putting in the refrigerator for a few hours. Very easy clean up and well worth the purchase!!

Makes great yogurt but it says it shuts off automatically ... It doesn't. One batch tasted like plastic because it was in overnight- I assumed it would shut off automatically. Next batch (and from now on) have to be there at the right time to shut it off. Tasted great.
