DVD Player does not work
I purchased this DVD player so that I could watch movies from my DVD/Blu-Ray collection on my laptop. However, although the item is advertised as being "plug and play" the DVD player cannot read the discs. There are no instructions for what software I am supposed to use included with the item. My laptop runs on Windows 10 and I tried using several Blu-Ray and DVD playing software while I was trying to get it to work. Ended up returning it. Also, why are half these reviews for a step stool? Seems nefarious to me.

Failed to read media
Flimsy construction. Front door won’t close all the way on one side. Worst of all, failed to read many CDs/DVDs/BDs, even clean, new ones without any scratch. Had to return unit. I also thought the cable they provided was too short (e.g., for use with a workstation).

Doesn't work.
I plugged it into my computer and every now and then the drive would buzz a little, as if the computer was recognizing it but nothing else would happen. I tried blu ray and regular dvd's... nothing. I tried switching the connections into different USB ports, hoping maybe one USB port would be better for it. Still nothing. If the company wants to reach out to me to get this sorted out, that would be great.

DOES NOT PLAY 4K!
It seemed to function ok, more or less with regular BluRays. It completely failed to recognize or mount the two 4K DVD I tried. The build quality is marginal. I would go with the Pioneer or Samsung BluRay player/ recorders for about the same price. They also do not play 4k but also do not claim to do so. I have owned and used BOTH.

Plug And Play (Supply Your Own Software Viewer/Codecs)
No problems. Blu Ray disks work fine with Cyberlink Power DVD 16 software and Windows 10. Only needed the one USB 3.1 cable/port for power and data on HP 17-by0089cl Pavillion laptop. Also worked with the Power Media Player 14 that came with the HP laptop's built in DVD player (software has Blu Ray codecs as well). Longer usb cables would be nice, but I understand the signal loss issues with longer cables.

My 4K BRDVD Portable Drive Burner
The first one I received would not work so it was returned and I was sent a second one which worked without any problems. I have used it along with the Printable BR Disc I bought. The disk I have created play on both my 4K and BRDVD players that I own. The video looks great on all my TV's.

Unfortunately, defective
Received the product, installed easily but was defective. The drive wouldn't read a Blu-ray or any DVD for that matter. Had to send back for a refund.
