An Honest Review From a Tech-Savvy Dad: White Screen Error
Two stars instead of one because it has a decent picture and all the features you could ever want, especially the ability to record to microSD (or FTP!), the ability to see the temperature (after a firmware upgrade), and the noise sensitivity meter so you aren't listening to your baby's white noise machine but will still be woken up when the baby cries. I chose this unit over all others because it uses my wifi, rather than the 2.4ghz wireless units that do not use wifi and use their own proprietary monitors. Not that I have a problem with proprietary monitors, but all of them that I've tried absolutely stink if you go even a few rooms away. The major reasons for the low score: completely random log-outs of the camera. This is a huge deal-breaker. What routinely happened to us is that we'd wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom (or even because we heard the baby crying from down the hall) only to see the phone we are using be completely white with no audio! This is not a problem with our wifi or the phone. The phone only has the Foscam software installed and nothing else (it is a quality Android phone we re-purposed just for this device). I also have the phone set to never turn the screen off. A few nights the camera stayed connected the entire night, but on more than 1 occasion the camera disconnected which makes it completely useless. The baby could have been crying the entire night and we wouldn't know it because we're asleep and the phone is sitting on a completely white screen! It is not our WiFi router because it's only about 20 feet from the Fosbaby camera and no other devices in our house has ever randomly disconnected. The camera is cheap junk.Another issue was that I noticed I could not see the temperature in the app. Seemed kind of silly that it has a thermometer but the app doesn't show the temperature. Anyway, with a firmware update, Foscam added this feature. The problem is the firmware update process. Now keep in mind that I am very knowledgeable with computers and have been updating firmwares since the 1980s. This firmware update was almost impossible.I went to Foscam's website and had to provide them with my email address simply to get a link to the firmware. I did try the "download firmware" update from within my web browser in the camera setup but at the time I was directly connected to the monitor in AP mode which mean I didn't have an internet connection. Plus I figured that Foscam's website would be more likely to have a newer update than the quick link provided in the web browser (which only said fosbaby.zip which doesn't give me confidence in it being the latest version). Anyway, I downloaded the supposed latest update; "Fosbaby_2.22.1.215-20141230 for North American only". I extracted the two .bin files as instructed, and attempted to update. It never worked. The web browser would just get stuck in a loop of "please wait". I waited 2 hours. No way does an 8MB update take 2 hours. I rebooted the camera and tried again. It did the exact same thing. Luckily the camera wasn't broken after 2 failed attempts to update the firmware.Reading the PDF that came with the firmware update, it says "do not update over wireless". The PDF is suggesting to update over Ethernet. Fair enough, except for the fact that this camera doesn't have an Ethernet port! These directions are specifically for the Fosbaby camera! No one at Foscam bothers to even casually read these directions before putting them online!Fed up I eventually tried the fosbaby.zip firmware which actually did work Keep in mind I got the exact same errors: it refused to reboot itself and got stuck at "please wait" for 2 hours. But this time after rebooting manually twice (after each .bin being uploaded), the update took. So do not bother downloading the firmware directly from Foscam's website or email. They don't work. And don't listen to the directions that say "do not manually reboot!!" because you have no choice since it never reboots itself after uploading the updates. Now with the update (which I am not even sure is the newest one because it lists itself as "Step1_FosIPC_B_app_ver2.x.2.5" and that ominous "X" is really important in knowing the firmware version) I can view the temperature. Excellent. However, with the camera randomly disconnecting it's completely worthless no matter how great the features are.tl;dr:Pros: Thermostat, good picture (though terrible framerate), uses your WiFi so range is better than majority of wireless monitors, audio sensitivity settings, ability to talk to your baby over microphone, SD card slot for recording and custom lullabys, FTP capabilities, email alerts for movements.Cons: abysmal software for iOS and Android (the entire purpose of having this device being rendered useless). Randomly disconnects in the middle of the night even with the screen being permanently set to "on". Reconnecting on Android produces a glitch where you will not hear audio unless you press the speaker icon, press it again, then press it yet again. Incredibly glitchy firmware update procedure. The app for this camera in the iTunes store has the worst ratings of any app I've ever seen (1 1/2 stars as of this writing). The device is good enough and has such good features that I would be able to overlook all the cons, except I cannot ignore the random logouts/disconnects. It makes the entire purpose of the device literally useless. I will be returning it because of this. Do not waste your time.

Mediocre from the start with a few good points
after using this product roughly 6 months i have a good idea of how it works and how well it holds up.First the good...its small, convenient with the different ways it mounts. It takes a great quality pic and is very nice and clear in color or b&w (nightmode)the bad (or rather stuff i didnt love or felt could be improved upon) Its extremely involved to get going....plug and play is not a term i can ever imagine anyone using. You have to register on a site, go line by line with dozens of settings, finally download the app to your phone also adding settings before its working....it took us over an hour from the time we went to the website until we got a streaming video going and we're pretty tech savy people.Once we got it going, again i love the quality, but few things i didnt like. There's no automatic pan/tilt so you have to move the camera by hand if you need to adjust it. I also found no way to zoom in which would have been nice. When it switches from light to dark the cam makes a very noticeable click that has woken my baby...it was so annoying in the afternoon/evening with the sun beginning to set that it would randomly click on and off every 20 secs or so. My options were to either buy blackout curtains or keep it in night mode so i chose the latter.Any time i had to unplug the device to move it or simply use that outlet for a moment i had some struggle getting it to connect again. recently i had to move it from the top of the crib because my little one was able to reach it after learning to stand. It's been a week now and i've tried 3 different times over several hours to troubleshoot and i cannot get it to connect anymore. There is very little in the way of support unless you're great and reading lengthy "how to's" which i'm not but anything i've tried has failed me.It kind of sucks because A. i need a camera B. even if i wanted to look into warranty and replacement the last thing i feel like doing is spending another hour reinstalling the whole thing to have it stop working in 6 months again. All in all, not bad...some very good things but if i had to do it over i'd pass and get something with less pic quality and more user friendly/reliable.

So far it works great - I am using $29 router and the video ...
The main reason to buy this camera for me was the option to stream the video on my local network without having to connect to the internet or a cloud service. Of course, you can do that if you want, but I didnt want to pay extra bandwith usage and cloud fee. So far it works great - I am using $29 router and the video does not lag in HD mode. The image quality is very good, even in low light conditions. However, the sound is like second or two behind and I didn't find a way to fix that. There is sound and motion detection (after installing the firmware updates) that can send "push notifications" to your phone or tablet, but you can activate that particular option only in the browser interface. Unfortunately, when you turn off and on the alert in the android app, the push notification deactivates by itself and if you want those notifications you need to go activate it again in the browser interface. This is the only annoyance I had with the app, the rest is OK - the installation process was not too complicated, the app is cute, you can disable the blue statuperfect. As for the camera itself, I find the viewing angle just perfect, the infrared lights are invisible, but yes, there is a noticeable "click" sound when it switches from normal to infrared mode, thogh it is not loud enough to wake up my baby. All things considered, it is a good baby cam with excellent image quality and easy to use app, except for the sound and motion alerts that are not really useful.

DO NOT BUY! TERRIBLE PRODUCT, WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE
This never worked. The app never worked, any alerts that were set never happened. The 2-way voice was awful. Matter of fact, we could never actually hear our baby at all. When an email was sent to Fosbaby about their terrible product, we were redirected to amazon. At this point, we just ended up buying the Motorola camera and couldn't be happier with it. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT - IT IS A TERRIBLE PRODUCT ONLY TOPPED BY THEIR LACKLUSTER CUSTOMER SERVICE.
