SINGER | Magic ESP-2 Electronic Steam Portable with A Large Pressing Surface & Auto Shut-Off with Audible Alarm

JULY 2012 update. So Amazon very nicely sent me a replacement steam press, because thank God I was within the return period!!! This second machine they've sent me, I use about once a week for 1-2 hours at a time just doing a whole load of pressing, the way I used the first machine which had the steam function conk out. So far, this second one has worked fine. Ironing is *not* fun, but this does a good job at making it quite a bit faster, and the steam function is working on this unit unlike my last unit. I was really a little stumped with my first unit. You certainly wouldn't think Singer makes bad stuff, given their hundreds-year old reputation. And I know there've been comments here that this is "cheap stuff" that's "made in China". But you know, quite honestly China makes some of the most forward and state-of-the art tech stuff out there. Every single Apple product is made in China, I mean. You can't get more cutting edge than Apple right?! Anyway this replacement machine is working fine. Whatever was wrong with the first, is not wrong with the second. And as I mentioned even for the first machine, the build quality is very good. So, pretty happy with this if you can be happy with an iron! I've noticed some of the other steam presses with Italian names, are really this unit re-branded. Don't know if there's any particular advantage to buying those vs this one, they are the same. But I went with Sears to go American, even though it's made in China haha.... Oh well. Works fine! Good buy. ;-) ------------- MARCH 2012... original purchase date... I *hate* ironing, but when i bought this steam press i *loved* this machine! Really, the first time I used it I was there for like 2 hours happily pressing away and all my clothes and stuff looked like they just got back from the cleaners. I did a lot of shirts, and I did some bedsheets too because I had some guests coming. Otherwise I don't iron bedsheets! But boy wow, did that make the sheets (which were expensive anyway!) feel ultra luxurious and brand new. So.. I decided to only do ironing once a week. And to do it in a big batch. (With the TV on in the background in case I do get bored haha...). Second week I used this, still all fine and good. Used it for about a 2 hour stretch. This past week, which would only the the third time I used it... the STEAM FUNCTION conked out. There's a button on the handle to press for steam. Usually the machine makes this type of odd honking noise, which is the steam part / motor activating. But it does sound like an odd honk of sorts! Well after only about 45 minutes -- water tank still quite full -- no honking noise. And no steam. I wonder what the heck. I unplug it, figure ok maybe it needs to reset or something I dunno. It's like when something's wrong with the computer you just restart it right?! Well still. No honking noise / no steam. Now *I'm* the one getting steamed. I continued to do my ironing, but with no steam. Which is certainly one way to iron, but if I just paid $200 for this then the steam should work. Especially since this is called a "steam press"! Before I bought this machine, I *did* see several reviews where people said the steam function conked out or just never worked from the start. Of course when I bought it I thought, "Well that won't happen to me. I think. I hope. I pray...." But it did! I called Singer. I swear I think they have one person answering the line (1-800-4SINGER). After being told "you're the 15th caller..." and it goes down one by one bye one, about 25 minutes later I'm talking to a lady and she says only certain Singer repair facilities can do the steam machine repair. Luckily, there is one in the area -- about 30 miles away from me. If that's "in the area". I could certainly drive it one day when I have nothing better to do right?... So I call the service center, I ask them how long it'll take to possibly repair and he says, "As soon as they send me a new one. It's usually not worth it to repair the steamer part. It breaks because they use cheap electronics." This is literally what the authorized Singer repair guy is telling me! Singer, btw, told me I would *not* be reimbursed for any postage if I sent it in directly to Singer for repair. But that they would "ship it back to me for free". What -- are they supposed to charge me when they ship it back?!!! Given the Singer brand and it's place in American history, I was REALLY a bit disappointed. I specifically bought this storied American brand because who doesn't know Singer and sewing machines?! There's A LOT of steam presses here on Amazon. I decided I was not going to buy some fancy Japanese or Italian one, because what would happen if I ever needed parts?! I figured I'm gonna buy the good old American one. Good... it was not! When I found out the repair store was only going to ship it back to Singer, who would then send them a new or refurbished machine which I would then have to drive 30 miles back to the repair center to pick up, I checked here on Amazon to see what the exchange policy was. LUCKILY... I have 30 days and today is day 29! So I hit that "exchange / return" button and a new machine is now on the way from Amazon, and I have to ship the defective one back to them for a swap. I *LOVE* that Amazon has this pretty easy defective product / exchange policy. Thank God I got it before my 30 days was up too! Gave me quite a bit more faith in Amazon. Definitely a little disappointed in Singer though. The build on the machine is quite good. I would never think it would break. But whatever's under the shell obviously needs some fine tuning. I think my new machine is supposed to arrive by the end of the week. Just in time for my weekend ironing haha. I'll keep you posted on how well that one stands up. I certainly hope it's better than the first one.

This is my third Magic Steam Press. I owned the 4 and the 7 both of these died a natural death do to old age. I'm ex-military and iron everything except my socks and under ware. My wife and son tell me I'd make someone a great wife since I do their clothes as well as mine. Imagine a investment of a little over $200 dollars that could pay for itself in a couple of months. Dry cleaning costs a fortune and no matter what the sign in the store tells you 'IT IS BAD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT'.Buy cotton and this little gem will save you a great deal of money. It is very easy to use and does not take up much space. It sit on happily on top of my drier. I use it almost every day. It does a bang up job....I tell my wife that we have a laundry room staff (me) just like wealthy people. When my Steam Press 7 died I immediately bought the ESP-2 from Amazon and had it in a couple of days. It is a hit. Digital but still the basic Magic Press that I grew to know and love over and very easy to use. The only caveat I have is that the the location of the off and on button is an invitation to burn yourself. Your first instinct is to turn the unit off by sticking your hand through the open press; almost insuring you burn your hand or arm on the top heating element.. The off and on switch is on the side towards the right hand side at the base of the press. So you need to close the press or reach around the side to turn the unit off. Poor ergonomics since the other 2 presses I owned had the off and on button on top of the press where it, in my opinion, belongs. The second issue I have is that the settings (i.e Nylon, Silk,Wool, Cotton, Linen) are to me misleading. The cotton setting is really too hot for most cotton fabrics (such as shirts). I have used the 'Cotton' setting only for things like denim. I use the 'Wool' setting for most 'light' cotton items (pants/shirts). I afraid to even try the 'Linen' setting. Maybe this is because my last press was old and gradually lost some of its 'heat up and go'. Just be aware of this issue and adjust according to your own needs. Otherwise this press is a wise investment even if you only iron occasionally, because it does a professional job in a very short period of time. I do some picture framing and the unit is ideal for 'flattening' the brown paper used as the backing on most picture frames. I makes putting on the backing a breeze. So there you have it; if you iron order one of these and spend less time ironing and save money on dry cleaning.

I have always wanted to have one of these presses for my pants. I am very particular about creases in my pants and also like well pressed table cloths. After much research and reading many reviews I bought this press. I did get some great knowledge from the other reviewers, but one thing that is not mentioned is that when you use the steam shot and then press your pants (or whatever) it leaves little steam hole marks. I solved this by using an old pillow case on top if what I am ironing and it works beautifully. This also keeps your clothing from getting that "iron shine". The only issue I have is one that is mentioned quite often in other reviews - the time that the press heats when actually pressing the clothing is too short, I don't mind the alarm, but 10 seconds is too short - quite often I use two pressings per area. This also may be due to the fact that I like really strong creases in my pants. The other thing is that this will not press small or intricate areas like shoulders in shirts very well. I use an iron for that still. I also do not use that little water bottle that comes with the press. I use a normal size one that sprays much better. Additionally, pressing your pants (or other clothing) when they are a little damp works well. One reviewer made the suggestion to try working with the machine cold when you first get it so you have the hang of it when it is hot - very good idea and it helps you to understand the positioning that you need for the clothes to get pressed properly and not get burned. I did not buy the stand since it fits perfectly on my ironing board and is very stable. All in all a great machine and it has saved me a large amount from my dry cleaning bill. I would recommend this press whole heartedly.

One day, I gathered all my clothes ready for the Dry-Cleaners and after doing the calculations of how much it would cost me for all the pieces I needed or wanted Dry-Cleaned and the fact that I don't really like how they wash the clothes if they even wash them. I decided to research how I could do my own press and get the same result as the Dry-Cleaners giving that I love washing my own clothes and I do a much better job than majority of the Dry-Cleaning places. That's when I ran into the Singer ESP-2 Magic Steam Press and began doing my research on it, including watching the youtube videos...After all my research I was satisfied with all the reviews and all the Pros.. minor Cons but it was basically isolated by users. I kept my money in my pocket for the Dry-Cleaning and put it towards this bad boy.. and He performed exceptionally great. I use it everyday. I work at the hospital and love looking sharp with my dress clothes and my Lab Coat. It's faster than the regular ironing and amazing result. You basically get your money back after two or three weeks or you potentially taking your garments to the Dry-Cleaners and you also know whats in your clothing and its CLEAN. Not looking at the collar and seeing brown stains and you're wondering if they could have done a better job. SURE they could..but with the volume of Dry-Cleaning they have.. your clothes are not worth them wasting time making sure its clean.. not to mention it goes into all the wash with everyone else cloths.. with stains of unknown bodily fluids, sex juices.. you know what I mean... This Steam Press is Amazing and Should be in everyone's home. I do plan on giving this out as a gift to close friends. Please go buy this Singer ESP-2 Magic Steam Press. I seriously recommend it and stand by it.

I like the way Technology keeps on helping us simplify our life and always love to explore new products and their capabilities. Almost 40 years back I had seen something similar being used at a laundry shop for ironing clothes, and i was a kid at that time and still impressed. It was a huge steam machine and was being used to iron full pants in a single shot. It never clicked to me that something similar could be made available for general use at homes too unless I saw this one on amazon few days back. Whole life the only iron i used had been ordinary steam or non steam irons only. Since there is a big price tag I read most of the reviews listed here before deciding to buy it and was a little confused if this would be a wise investment or a waste. Some reviewers not happy with it's steam functioning and some not happy for other reasons. Anyway i bought it and it arrived few days back. My first impression was that it looks smaller then what i had imagined it's size would be but still was glad to see it's overall appearance and finish. Just unwrapped it, placed on floor directly, put (bottled pure filtered water) in its tank, set to cotton and started using it as soon as steam light came up (in about 3 to 4 minutes) after turning it on. Performance was really magical so the title name is right (Magic steam). Out of curosity and just to test that it really has it's potential I did my nearly full closet of shirts, jeans, pants etc. and it was amazing experience. It kind of kept working same way i had seen the huge professional machine I saw in my childhood. I am fully impressed and hope it would keep on working same way for a long time now. This time i have decided to use only bottled purified water as all my past steam irons got ruined with tap water and hard deposits. I don't want to lose this one for that issue atleast. This would be my advice to anyone else who use steam irons/presses to use purified water only as blockage of steam vents or stains on clothes from steam are the biggest culprits of this whole new Technology.

I have been wanting one of these pressing machines for almost 15 years! I finally decided to spring for it because I've been doing a lot of sewing of projects that require fusible interfacing. For any one who sews and has used a regular iron to apply fusible interfacing, you know what a pain it is to fuse anything bigger than the size of the iron! It can take hours to fuse a large piece or a bunch of pieces of fabric. I dread having to fuse things with the regular iron. First off, this presser seems like a nice quality item. It's heavy without being hard to manage. It took me only moments to set it up, add the water and heat it up. While it did take a bit longer to heat up than a regular iron, I was so THRILLED with the results of it, I don't mind at all. I fused a HUGE piece of interfacing (about 25" wide and about a yard long) to a piece of cotton fabric. I was making some bags and accessories and needed large amounts of fused fabric so I just spread out the fabric, placed the fusible face-down on the fabric and closed the presser. . . and VOILA. . . 7 seconds later I had my fused fabric! It looked perfectly fused, although I did give it another 7 seconds just to be sure. (I'm so used to spending about 30 seconds per press with the iron so 7 seconds seemed crazy at first.) It took me less than 2 MINUTES to apply fusible interfacing to almost 2 yards of fabric. I love this presser!!! I only wish that I hadn't waited so long to buy one. I have only had it for 2 weeks but I hope that it continues to work this well for many, many years. I'm sure it will do a lovely job pressing clothes too, but that's not the reason I purchased it. I'm using it mostly for my sewing projects. I did put some very wrinkled fabric under the presser and it came out looking smooth as can be, so I'm sure that it would also be great for regular pressing jobs. If you are thinking about buying this for sewing projects, I think you'll be very pleased by this machine.

I've used this daily now for about a month. I have a vintage linen business and was looking for a better, more efficient way to press my linens. Ironing takes so long and is a lot more labor intensive. A friend suggested that I get a steam press. I had no idea that a home sized one was even available. I had only seen the enormous ones that dry cleaners use. I read several reviews and ended up going with the Singer. Some of the reviews mentioned a lot of beeping and yes, it does have cautionary beeps, like when you leave the top down too long. But that's a safety issue in my mind. I'm easily distracted by phone calls or people stopping in, so it's not out of the question that I'd leave the top down and then walk away. So I'm glad that it has that safety issue. The other time it beeps is when, I think, it's coming up to temperature. None of the beeping is excessive and is really not that bothersome. You can use the machine's built in water tank if you want to steam, but I've found it more efficient to just press my linens while they are still damp. I didn't find the steam function all that useful in my particular situation. But it is handy to have. Just be sure to read the instructions on how to use it. You shouldn't use it when the top is all the way down. It should just be a few inches above your garment. That could be why other reviewers were getting a lot of beeping. All in all, this machine has saved me an inordinate amount of time in preparing my linens for photographing. It's a joy to use and I'm so happy that I purchased it. It also has an auto-off feature. Perfect for someone like me who is easily distracted!

I was skeptical but the steam press does work. It works great on shirts and have saved me a lot of time. It does not work well on pants (or anything that's not flat), the pockets and flaps get pressed incorrectly and you can't fix it like you can with an iron. Also, you do need to elevate the steam press to a comfortable working level so a good solid table is a must. Overall I am satisfied with this product but it is not meant for all items. If you look at the promotional videos available on the internet, they don't do much with non-flat materials.

Had a magic steam model by singer years ago but when it broke bought a cheaper different make which wasn't nearly as good. When that machine broke decided to buy another singer. Very pleased with my new singer steam press

布ポーチ制作用に購入しました。 ズボンなどのプレス機との違いが不明で、長いこと悩んでおりましたが、 ポーチ制作時の接着芯貼りに時間がかかりすぎてしまっていたので、 ミシンメーカーのブランドを信じて、思い切って購入いたしました。 （後にYouTubeにて公式サイトより使い方も判明して安心したところです。） 使い勝手は、短時間できれいに、しっかりと接着芯を貼る事が出来、満足しています。 プレス時間も10秒ほど、生地による温度調整も可能です。スチーム機能もついています。 個人的には大満足の品ですが、何点か気になったところを記載しておきます。 ・ワット数が高いため、単体で使用しても延長コードの接続部分が高温になります。 ・プレスの上（蓋）部分がアイロンになっているため、やけどに注意、 又、作業中前に立つと熱さを感じるので、夏の長時間使用はつらいものがありそうです。 ・温まるまで少し時間がかかります。 ・アイロン面は、27㎝×50㎝（変形細長い部分入れると62㎝）、大きなものは、ずらしてプレスしています。 ・置き場所は、幅70㎝、奥行き40～45㎝必要です。 裁縫用としての感想ですが、以上を踏まえても、買って良かったと思える品です。 参考になりましたら幸いです。

This is exactly as advertised. I had read a couple of negative comments so I wanted to chime in. First, it's hot and if you're reaching in to adjust the clothes, you will burn yourself. This is not a product defect, it's a user error (I've done it twice). Second, the steam is also hot (see the first point). Third, if you don't place your garment flat, you will get unintended creases. It takes a little to get in the habit of doing this, but it is not a product defect. Forth, yes, there are some water spots that appear from the steam holes. It's water and if you use the steam on them, they will evaporate anyway. This is a quirk of the product, but not a big deal. Lastly, it's hard to press the should panel on a dress shirt with this. It might be something I have simply not figures out yet, but until then, I do still have to use a hand iron to finish the shirt. With how much time it saves me, I don't see this as a big deal. Overall, I get my pressing done a lot faster and found myself pressing things I would not have otherwise bothered with.
