L'humanité (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray]

Incredible filmmaking. As the other reviewer expressed, Dumonts movies can be pretty polarizing. This film is unlike any one I've ever seen, and I was completely blown away.His first two films are shot in small working class towns , and reflect something few directors ever approach. Kind of hard to explain .His films are by no means easy, and I'm still trying to understand some things with this particular film.I like movies that challenge my perceptions

One of the great contemporary French films from one of the great contemporary French masters. Like virtually all of Bruno Dumont's exceptional films, this will polarise and anger as many viewers as those it will astound. I rate Dumont very highly, so I'm admit to being biased. Nevertheless, in my view this is an extraordinary work of cinema by any standard.

Not my cup of tea since you asked…I appreciated certain elements for what they were but it’s not for me. Excellent scenery and performances however.

Deals very frankly with alienation and the pathos of sexual crime. But the banality of the ordinary lives the film evokes is memorable. The English couple who may have seen crucial clues to the murder of the child from the Eurostar train are beautifully played. Despite the brutal frankness of the sex scenes it is the pathos of the human condition one remembers. Scenes in the mental hospital underline the issue of alienation. Some viewers will find the film distressing and voyeuristic. But is its humanity that most viewers will remember.
