Clutter Mischief MANAGED + Bonus subversive use for this sturdy file box.
So I'm a subversive user of this great Cargo product, and it's highly recommended!Note that I do *not* use it for its official purpose. It's on my PC desk with a small shelf of binders, PC, printer, a stack of steam-punky /neo industrial matching Cargo Document Boxes for loose papers and spare printer paper, and also the Media Box in the same product group. I learned it the hard way: once you've experienced a major drive crash or, shudder, a backup drive crash, or noticed to your shock that cloud storage wasn't really backing stuff up quite the way you thought it was, you decide to keep some paper copies to save your ass.My alternative to hanging file folders in the product is... librarifying necessary clutter. That's why I bought this hoping I could use it the *wrong* way to replace the brittle plastic open sided vertical magazine file, where everything seemed to get perpetually dusty, and which was so skimpy skinny it kept falling over. This great Cargo Desktop File turns out to be the perfect size to corral the legal pads and clipboards I keep for each major project. In the real world, I discovered you need more than EverNote, OK? So I put stuff here that I have to frequently refer to during the course of a couple days, rather than letting one more stack o' stuff pile up. I will definitely buy another one...this *file box* is so sturdy it could even be set on its side vertically to fit a cubby hole function, as well. The sturdy-enough metal reinforcement along the open top, you know, where you're supposed to hang file folders, that part of the construction is already taking some serious daily abuse as I grab and replace my clipboards, "project pads" and big notebook-sized day book a couple times a day during work flow. Clutter mischief MANAGED!PS: So I've now tried just about every item in the Cargo desktop line, and found 3 of them to be not only great looking, but well constructed. However, the giant *Shelf Box* or regular File Box with the steel-reinforced lid is, unfortunately a really inferior and flimsy product; the big Shelf/Dual File Boxes [unfortunately I bought 5 and had discarded the shipping boxes before assembling] are extremely awkward to assemble and once put together, the cardboard sides consistently bow and distort, being much flimsier and less stable than, say, simple banker's box type cardboard filing box. But the rest of the Cargo line --this review's Cargo Desktop File product, as well as the Media Box, and the Document Boxes-- is sturdy, well designed, and you don't slice your hands up in a ridiculous product assembly.

Like others reported
Like others reported, this arrived damaged. I was able to mostly bend the metal guides back into shape by hammering them flat. However, the main material is a heavy paperboard which arrived damaged and creased so the white of the paper shows through the red which definitely cheapens the look of it, and the whole reason I got it is because I wanted something that would look nice. I'm not sure the hanging folders will glide very well on the guides since they're creased in some places where even a hammer couldn't flatten them. I wasn't looking for amazing, but I was looking for functional and better than plastic or metal in appearance. I'll give it 3 stars for both.

Very useful! Great product, however arrived a bit damaged...
This is a great product... Holds loads of files and looks super on my desk -- HOWEVER, it arrived a bit damaged. The one side was bent in substantially. The shipping box was NOT damaged, so this leads me to believe it was in that condition BEFORE it was popped into the box and shipped. I was able to improve the bend with a pliers and put that end against the wall, so kept the item. However it's disappointing that an Amazon employee would be so careless and irresponsible.

They work fine
I purchased these based on the reviews on Amazon. Here is my review.1) It fits Pendaflex and Oxford hanging folders just fine without issues. 5 of 5 stars2) It fits regular non hanging file folders. 5 of 5 stars3) It arrives a little beat up because there is no foam inside the file box, and the weight of the box during shipping bends the metal parts. No problem, bend them back. 2 of 5 stars4) They are sturdy enough for how I use them. 4 of 5 stars5) The color is 100% accurate. 5 of 5 stars

It does hold hanging file folders
I had no problem fitting hanging file folders into this box. The metal rim around the top does easily bend and flex, so if the shape of the box was distorted during shipping, the hanging files might not fit right away. However, the sides can easily be pushed back into the right place. As other reviewers noted, the box is not particularly sturdy--it's not designed for heavy use, and that's why I took off 1 star. If you want it to sit on your desk or shelves and hold files that you access infrequently, it's great.

Nice but not perfect
I ordered this for a client per her request. I gave it four stars because it is a very sturdy and well made product but I couldn't give it five stars because I had difficulty getting the hanging files to stay in place, either the box is too shallow or too wide, I couldn't quite determine what the problem was but it wasn't working as it should have. However, that said, my client was happy with it and that's all that mattered.

Made of very flimsy cardboard
I had no problem fitting file folders in the file as some reviewers mentioned. It looks ok but it is made of extremely light cardboard. You need to be very careful picking it up if you have any weight at all in it. As some others have mentioned it is very difficult to ship the item without having it damaged. It is extremely lightweight with some light aluminum along the top. I guess you can bend it back into shape of it gets bent. Its probably worth about half what I paid for it, it will work for very light weight filing but don't plan on moving it around much or it will definitely not last

I like the style but it is quite flimsy and the ...
I like the style but it is quite flimsy and the way it was packaged in plastic had bent the metal trim along the top edge. So using it to carry papers and files from spot to spot requires care to not get scraped by the metal. I think the cost was high for the quality
