Suffering Is Never for Nothing

Highly recommend
This book is amazing! It is so encouraging, a great resource to have on hand to give to those in your life who are suffering and trying to make sense of it all. It’s written a little funny at times because it’s actually a translated speech/talk she gave at a conference, but that doesn’t take away from the wisdom shared. I have gifted this book to at least 4 friends.

Love letter to God
My goodness, this book... if Bible is God's love letter to us, this book is Elisabeth Elliot's love letter to God. Her life also is her love letter to God. I didn't necessarily realize the meaning of suffering after finishing this book but I learned what to do with suffering while reading this book. I love her writing and her life offered to God. Adding an excerpt from the book : "whatever is in the cup that God is offering to me, whether it be pain and sorrow and suffering and grief along with the many more joys, I'm willing to take it because I trust Him." She certainly lived her life this way. Lover her books.

One of the best books I've ever read
Elisabeth Elliott has been a favorite author of mine for about 20 years, but this book is has been even more life changing than her other works. I've bought multiple copies to give to friends and have read and listened to the audio book multiple times. I cannot recommend enough spending time with her heart, soul, and mind-bending perspectives.

A powerful book everyone should read!
In this small but very powerful book, Elisabeth Elliot takes the topic of suffering and places the focus and attention on God and Scripture in such a beautiful, relatable, and practical way. She doesn’t act as though she has all of the answers or that she can understand other individuals’ struggles, she truly provides relatable and useful information that leads back to Christ, where I found it to be so incredibly uplifting and encouraging. While suffering from something big or small, the challenges arise when it seems as though things aren’t going to improve, our prayers aren’t being answered as we envisioned them, or there appears to be no end in sight when it comes to our suffering. It can be easy to build up frustration, anger, and even question God. Elisabeth turns the script and shows through the use of her personal experiences and Scripture we can rest in the knowledge that God is in complete control, and He has a bigger plan and loving purpose for every one of us. In the midst of suffering, God can teach the most valuable lessons, where Elliott touches on faith, gratefulness, acceptance, and redemption.I found this book to be so incredibly encouraging at a time in my life when I was struggling. I re-read portions of this book often and find comfort in knowing and reminding myself that God is present with us in our suffering, we aren’t alone and through God, he can transform anything such as our suffering into something good because… 𝐒𝐮𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.I think this is a book everyone should read!💛

Encouraging Book!
So much wisdom in this book from someone who has experienced suffering! She makes it clear that because Christ suffered, we too will suffer in this life. But through Christ we can one day live eternally with Him with no suffering! This book encouraged me in so many ways!

Incredible book; purchased four more as gifts before I had even finished it!
Written in Elisabeth Elliot's voice, this teaching on suffering is stellar. I was greatly encouraged to view suffering through a different lens, and strengthened in my walk with Christ. I recommend this book for anyone who is struggling to accept suffering of any kind: loss, grief, trauma, financial, physical, relational...truly anything. Elisabeth consistently points to Scripture and God's goodness in the tension of the not yet and the "no." I think everyone should read this book.

Elliot knows suffering and takes us to our deepest hope in grief
Elisabeth Elliot knows suffering: her first husband was murdered by the Waoroni people he was ministering to as a missionary; her second husband died of cancer. Elliot eloquently speaks into our deepest suffering, sharing her own experiences of grief and pointing us to the one who is not the answer to our questions but the real and comforting presence in our heartache. Has the title suggests, reading her book will remind us of the essential truth Elliot proclaims, that our suffering is never for nothing.

Must read. If not now, then later.
When you are going through it, can barely breathe, if you haven’t read this, then you need to. I’ve highlighted so many pages to go back and read again.
