This book sucks- Its a lie
I ordered Othello and the book was nothing as described. There are no line numbers or annotations, no copy-write page, and the sources are from Wikipedia. The cover was not what was depicted and the pages are not numbered. For the simple reader it works, but for a college student studying the work, it is terrible. Do not buy this edition. Take your $6.50 and use it towards an addition that is worth it. I enjoy Shakespear, but I do not enjoy this publication.

Excellent Resource
The Purchase was worthwhile for the 150 plus page introduction. A Shakespeare scholar, teacher recommended the book because I needed information about the how the play was performed and by whom. I would have paid the price just for the introduction alone. The Introduction is a well written, informative, and engaging account of the history of the play, its performers, and reception as well as Othello's unique position in the racial politics of the UK and the USA. As reference it is a must read for academics, social historians, and drama students

I have been teaching "Othello" for 12 years and this ...
I have been teaching "Othello" for 12 years and this is by far the most scholarly and footnoted edition available. This edition footnotes not just their own editorial decisions but the history of editorial decisions from the Quarto and Folio. Also, the introduction, which is almost 200 pages, details the performance and critical histories.

but this one was much better for writing research papers
I already owned the Folger Shakespeare Library version of Othello, but this one was much better for writing research papers, as it had many handy essays in the back.

In following him, I follow but myself.
Having read other Shakespearean works published by Oxford Worlds Classics I knew this would a superbly informative work. There is no point in this review going into the work of Shakespeare and this tragedy, Othello. I will use this review to write about the all the parts that make up this particular book. There is a wonderful and informative 179 page introduction that consists of sections on the play's reception, sources, the play in performance and the interpretation of the play. There are six appendices which include headings such as, The Texts of the Play, The Music in the Play and Longer Notes. But what I believe sets this book apart is the excellent, comprehensive and well researched footnotes.I am using this book in conjunction with my English Literature degree and would highly recommended it to others.

The definitive edition
An essential part of the Open University's 2nd year "A230 Reading and Studying Literature" course, from the Renaissance section. A tragic tale of love, jealousy, betrayal and deceit. This Oxford version contains a huge amount of information, clarifying and analysing this classic play. 11/10.

A must read for our time
This is a brilliant piece of writing which is a relevant today as the day it was written. The issues it deals with and how Shekespeare tackles them are brilliant. I never knew how much racism exhisted during the 17th Century and reading 'Othello' has given me a new insight into how life must have been for people of colour in white Europe. This is one of those 'must read' books that will enlighten and better oneself.
