When last we spent time together I found out my 19-year-old granddaughter. a Portland, OR, beauty, liked Robert Johnson a lot. She raided my record collection for my extremely old and extremely well played King of the Delta Blues, Vol. 1 record. You could practically see through the record it was that worn. Well that record has only 16 of Robert's 29 sides and she needed to hear every one. So when her birthday came around this June, I sent her Robert Johnson: The Complete Collection. She loves it. I'm never happier than when I'm sharing music and to share RJ, a bluesman I love so much, with my granddaughter is a very, very special delight. Finding Birthday and Christmas gifts for her is going to be very easy the next few years.

This really gets to the roots of R&B.

The fact this CD includes all his recordings makes you a 'completist' from a true genius guitarist & songwriter. Must have for blues fans.

First: these are recordings from 'second generation' recording technology that were made in the 1920's. Anyone complaining about 'scratchiness' or some other such nonsense needs to go back to the Gerber food of music they are listening to anyway. The copies on this collection is from the only existent copies of Robert Johnson out there. Robert Johnson is the face of legendary, foundational blues (although, there were a few 'elders' already around when he started). He and others in his generation are part of the American cultural history. If you like anything in contemporary music, Johnson and his generation have contributed their DNA to it. If you're serious about wanting to know American music you need to have this in your collection, period!

I ordered and then returned the first copy of this album due to a pressing defect on side 1 which spanned tracks 2 and 3. The replacement copy still had the same fault but not so pronounced which I can live with. Generally, I have found the quality of vinyl records is not as good today as they were in the 80s and 90s.
