Workhorse scoop works perfect five years later and for much more than just cookies
When I bought this scoop five years ago, I used it primarily for making cookies. It was perfect for getting just the right amount of dough and for keeping my cookies consistent for baking. The scoop has been working perfectly through these years. Prior to buying this scoop, I had tried other, more cheaply made scoops and found that they broke fairly rapidly. Knowing OXO's quality, I purchased this scoop once I found it on Amazon. I have found that I use it all the time for other purposes. One of my favorite uses is for making meatballs. I use this for my pasta dishes and especially when I make Albondigas soup. This is a wonderful Mexican soup and it is important to get the meatballs consistent in size. For anyone interested, here is the recipe I have developed over the years: Albondigas Soup Recipe Ingredients: * 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup) * 2 teaspoons granulated garlic * 2 teaspoons dehydrated onion (not onion powder) * 1 Tablespoon cooking oil * 32 ounces chicken or beef broth (or a mixture of half and half) * 4 cups water * 1/2 can (3 ounces) tomato paste * 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed (2 cups) * 2 medium carrots, sliced (1 cup) * 2 celery stalks sliced (1 cup) * 1 zucchini cubed (1 cup) * 1 beaten egg * 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed * 1/2 teaspoon black pepper * 1 pound 80/20 ground chuck beef * 1/2 cup long grain rice (not Uncle Ben's - use the cheap type of rice as the grains soften to the right consistency) * 1 teaspoon cider or red wine vinegar Preparation: In large pot (6 qt), cook onion in hot oil till onion is tender but not brown. Stir in water, broth, and tomato paste. Bring to boiling; add potatoes, carrots, celery and zucchini. Bring to simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Add half of the cilantro, salt, oregano, and pepper (the other half is reserved for meatballs.) Meanwhile combine egg, dehydrated onion, and remaining cilantro, salt, oregano, and pepper. Add ground beef and half of uncooked rice. Mix well and return to refrigerator for 15 minutes to chill. Form mixture into around 1-inch meatballs (I use the OXO medium cookie scoop Add meatballs, a few at a time, to the simmering (not boiling!) soup. Add remaining rice. Return soup to boiling; reduce heat and simmer and cook uncovered about 30/40 minutes or till meatballs and vegetables are done. Skim fat, add vinegar, simmer 1 minute and turn off heat and serve.

I have Small, Med and Large...Love them all
For me these scoops have been one of the best investments for my baking. I use the large scoop when I make regular cupcakes and I love that they all turn out the same, no more this cup has more batter and isn't done while another has less and will burn. I also use the large when I make meatballs in my regular size cupcake pan or anything else I want to use with that pan. The medium scoop is the same. I love how my cookies come out the same size and no one gets burned while another is under cooked. I love the ease of these. After cake decorating for many years I have tendonitis in my right hand and these have been easy on my hand to release. For Christmas I do cookie exchanges and this scoop makes it easy when making tons of cookies because you can scoop, plop them on the cookie sheet and keep right on going. For me it saves a lot of time even when making those cookies you do have to roll in your hand for smooth balls for dipping in chocolate, they are the same size balls of dough and cook evenly. The small scoop I use when I do anything with my mini muffin pan. From brownie bites, to cupcakes to muffins. Again, I love having uniformity in my baking and that everything comes out the same size, bakes the same and looks great. I would recommend investing in these scoops for not only easy cleaning, but how easy they are to use and comfortable too. I did put mine in the dishwasher and they washed up well with no problems. When I wear these out I will definitely be buying more.

Works So Good My Neighbor Stole It!
You cannot go wrong with these scoops. Sturdily made and finely honed, these scoops will work for ages without fatiguing your hand. Over the years, Oxo "Good Grip" products have come to make up most of the "cook's tools in my kitchen. The old plastic measuring cups and spoons and the cheap potato peeler were some of the first tools needing to be replaced. Noting Oxo's overall great ratings, I opted to pop the extra buck or two and have never looked back. I'd always used the two spoon method to attempt to get cookies of the same size on the cookie sheet. I got pretty good at it, but there was always an amateur look to my finished cookies. The idea of a cookie scoop never occurred to me until I complimented a friend saying that her cookies looked worthy of a high-end bake shop. Every cookie on the plate looked to be exactly the same size and to have cooked evenly. She shared the secret of the scoop to ensure consistency in the look and texture of her cookies. Deciding to purchase one for myself, I looked cookie scoops up on Amazon.com and saw my favorite brand, Oxo Good Grips, listed and bought all three sizes. The medium is the one I use most. The large comes in handy for making oversize dessert cookies, but the small has mainly been relegated to occasional melon baller status. I recently had to replace the medium sized one. Not because it wore out, it didn't. In fact, it was just as comfortable and springy as the day purchased. No, I loaned the darn thing to my neighbor over the holidays when she broke her cheaply made scoop in some kind of cookie making frenzy. Perhaps she found herself coveting it too much to return it, it's that good, but I decided to rack it up to another loaned item lost and bought myself a new one. If at sometime she does attempt to return it, I'll just tell her to keep it and to go home and use it to make me some cookies!

Did not hold up, would not buy again
Did not hold up - the scooper would frequently bind, and then it eventually skipped a few teeth making the scooper completely unusable. I tried resetting back to the correct tooth position but it continued to skip teeth. Became more of a hinderance than a help. Threw it straight in the trash.

Would have liked an in-between size
I have no complaints about the quality of the product. My only complaint is that I found that the 3 Tbsp scoop produced cookies that were a little too large -- my main concern being that the cookies may not get sufficiently done inside (given the short baking time for cookies) -- and the 1.5 Tbsp scoop produced cookies that were a bit smaller than I wanted. For me, the ideal size is about 2.3 Tbsp. I found one that size, but it was a different brand.

So handy!
I had no doubt about this brand so given all the brands available I knew this was the one to buy. I had looked at a couple different brands locally and both indicated to hand wash. No way! This brand is dishwasher safe. It's very easy to grip, scoop and release. I was surprised at how much quicker and efficient the scoop is rather than the messy hand shaping cookie dough approach! I've never has this little luxury before. Oxo products have always proven to be superior, easy-to-use lasting tools. I have a hand can opener over 20 years old by Oxo that's still so easy to use if my electric one isn't working, still looks new. That's quality if quality is what you want. I got the medium size scoop and it's smaller than I was expecting but the resulting cookies come out plenty big enough, certainly medium to large and very consistent in size. I highly recommend the luxury of a cookie scoop over the teaspoon, tablespoon, roll in your hands messy approach. It can also be used to scoop melon and ice cream. I definitely recommend OXO!

Take some of the gueess work out of your cookies !!
As a kid I loved making cookies with my mum, but on making them as an adult I could never quite get them the right. I decided to buy the Oxo Cookie Scoop so I could get all my cookies a uniformed size, and also so could get them in to the oven fast without the mix losing air from creaming process. I found I was spending a considerable amount of time, rolling, guessing sizes of dough etc, to get the perfect cookie. I bought the medium size scoop; I would recommend this size to someone that just wants one scoop. It's a nice size, slightly larger than average cookies, without being over generous (we as home cooks know how much butter goes into our cookies lol). The design features and build quality is A++, excellent finishing/wielding, large quality very "grippy" handle, quality steel and spring mechanism. This cookie scoop id expect to last at least 15 years, with use a couple of times a week, with occasional use a lifetime. Ok well design/build/quality is one thing but does it work??.....Yes and very well !!, for a start getting it out of the draw... The grippy handles make it easy to grip with flour/butter on hands, then simply but dough in scoop, level off with knife, squeeze the handle, and you have the perfect amount of dough every time, and there in the oven fast !!. Clean up is super easy as I just place in dishwasher and comes out perfect every time (some gadget's id rather wash by hand). Pros: Does an excellent job, good quality, dishwasher safe, reliable brand, built to last. Cons: None....Excellent buy and value. I don't expect to see any rust or quality issues, but if I do I will update review.

You Gotta Love OXO
OXO Good Grips as they are called, produces the best cooking/baking tools in the home cooking industry--and lot of us cook daily so for me it is my business. I use various name brand tools and machines in my kitchen and when tool fails whether it is deteriorated from age and use or it just did not stand up to normal use, I go to OXO for a replacement tool. The company simply does not fail. They make cookie scoops in exact sizes, out of sturdy material that is engineered to fit precisely right in an outstanding hand tool. The ergonomics are renowned for their comfort and ease of use with no hand, palm, finger or wrist cramping. There is just smooth functionality with this tool, the sizing of cookies is not sloppy, but always exact--makes it easier to plan for event desert trays, pot lucks, after game parties, etc. The engineering is a bonus as all the moving parts fit together smoothly so nothing gets caught on cleaning devices, like sponges, dish towels, or wire scrubbers. Thank you OXO.
