Where's The Zombie's Now! :-)
My wife's reaction when she saw this Machete! Had to enclose that in the review.. NOW on to the machete itself: First KUDO's to Whetstone Cutlery for getting it shipped and delivered ahead of schedule & for a fine piece of cutlery that I look forward to putting to some heavy use camping and around the house! I read the many reviews and a great many complained of the saw teeth ripping the sheath up from pulling this machete out. Simple enough to fix, I used the world famous Duct Tape and put a piece over the teeth then trimmed up the excess off the blade so now it goes in and out of the sheath with no problem. When I need to use the saw I will just remove the duct tape, wipe it down and put another piece on it. The blade was sharp, NOT as sharp as some may want but sharp enough for right now. The rubber grip handle has a super feel and with the full tang into the grip it offers a nice balance. With 3 removable nuts and bolts in the handle, clean up will be a breeze! I bought this for camping and the possible Zombie apocalypse.(Hey you never know right?) Anyway It is a nice addition to our camping gear and I look forward to putting it to work in May. The sheath is a typical one with rivets placed every few inches. Nylon construction. The belt loop is long and narrow. It has a snap closure strap that snugly fits around the handle to keep it in place. For the price and for what I plan on using it for along with the sturdy feel I have to give it 5 stars! After using it a few times I will come back and update my review to see if it still will keep my 5 star review.

Good quality for the price
This is a good machete, well designed and made, with a full tang and a much larger handle than any others I've seen that have a knuckle guard (most I simply can't grip comfortably). You'd have to have extremely large hands before it would pinch. It's a tool, not a weapon, the blade is stainless steel rather than forged high-carbon steel (which requires much more care and would corrode and chip if used for hacking brush). The saw on the back side is good for occasionally cutting branches too thick to simply whack through, but you wouldn't want to make heavy use of it (it's a little awkward to grip the handle in the right way to use the saw). The knuckle guard is plastic, which is fine for keeping vines and light branches from ripping up your fingers. It's not razor sharp as delivered, but again this is a tool, you don't want something that will lay your hand open if you simply slip while picking it up. This is a good tool for camping, remote hiking, or heavy yard work. It's not a weapon, except in extremis. You don't want to draw it from the hip with the provided sheath, the saw blade will catch (a leather scabbard or a canvas one with a brass guard would probably cost more than the machete). People that are dinging it for not being designed to fight with should ask themselves when they expect to be in a sword-fight that nobody thought to bring a gun to, and why they expect a $20-25 tool to be their go-to choice in that situation.

Excellent Machete
Was looking for a quality machete and this one did not disappoint me. After going to major hardware stores and finding machete's made with very thin blades that were extremely flimsy, with a poor handle and no sheath I started reading many reviews for several different machete's online and opted for this one. As with other reviews concerning this machete I can confirm it comes to you dull/unsharpened but that should not deter anyone from considering this machete as I put a very good edge on it with less than 20 minutes work. The blade is very stout (no bending this blade) and heavy enough to take out whatever you are using it on, including invading zombies (if you want to chop a tree down, get an axe). Even though it is not a carbon type blade the stainless steel should provide a decent edge and last for years. The backside of the blade is lined with a very course saw which will rip vines out easily or help finish off that tough limb. The blade fully extends into the handle which is securely fastened with nuts and bolts. The handle is good quality and provides good protection to your fingers when slinging the machete around. It also has a lanyard to prevent you from accidentally entering a tomahawk contest. I can also confirm that you will have to take care withdrawing the machete from the nylon sheath. That course saw on the backside will snag and eventually cause undue wear and tear to the sheath if you're not careful but I personally don't intend to practice any quickdraws. I presume a leather type sheath was not provided to give this machete a decent price tag and the nylon sheath will provide adequate protection from the blade. As a suggestion, the company could have made the nylon sheath with a simple and cheap plastic runner on the inside of the sheath to keep it from snagging. Knocked off one star for coming to me dull but overall it should serve the purpose for years to come with proper care, highly recommended.

Feels like it'll slice or chop through whatever's in my way...
Well it didn't get here in time to take for a spin last weekend but can't knock a star for that. This thing has a little heft to it but in a good way. Feels like it'll slice or chop through whatever's in my way, in the woods of course :) Came with a good edge on it but I put a better one on it. Already has some oil on the blade when I unpacked it, which is good even though the stainless shouldn't really need it much. Nice full tang blade with no wobble or flimsy feel you get from a lot of other machete blades, buddy has one he thought was cool with a saw back until he held this one. The teeth on the saw back look to be functional and not just for some ripping, they have a stagger to them that should cut through some decent limbs if you can keep some leverage on it (which is the issue for most saw backs). Earlier comments about the sheath I believe have been addressed by the manufacture since mine has an inner layer to keep the saw back from chewing up the nylon. Though over time it may still chew through if you let it rub or drag across the opening every time you sheathe/unsheathe it. Seems like a quality tool, post more once it gets some use!

HEAVY!
Very great machete. Bought two of them on a whim and I do not regret it one bit. These make my other machetes look like toys. These are super heavy and once you swing these, you have to commit. You can't stop mid-swing since the balance is about 7 teeth up from the bottom. Very heavy steel. Took the saw blade back to a palm tree I didn't like anymore. Took about 50 strokes back and forth for me to get deep enough to push the tree over and expose the center. Then with two chops, CHOP! CHOP! down the palm fell (maybe a minute to cut down a 8" thick tree). Also has knuckle guards. Ever seen a knuckle guard on a machete? Yup, these are a rarity I love! You don't have to hold the handle the whole time. You can splay your hand and use the back of your hand to hold the weapon. Lastly, it has a wrist strap. I bought a Smiths pocket sharpener with the carbide and ceramic sharpeners and the honing tool. I put it on the strap so I always have a sharpener for them. Weren't that sharp off the rip, but with a few minutes of sharpening you have a 2 foot razor blade. BE VERY CAREFUL!!! MY ONLY CON!!! The sheath is cloth and the saw back is tearing up the top inside part. Maybe a plastic shim sewn inside there could prevent that, but well worth the price! I paid 30$ for 2.

Real
Received this Machete today. I am saying the same thing that most of the 4 & 5 star reviewers said. This product is worth the 18 bucks. For the price it is made extremely well. The handles are very hard rubber that are bolted with three bolts and nuts. The blade is thick and will not bend. Appears to be solid made. It will arrived not very sharp. However, it is made so well for the price that I will not take away a star for being dull, I can sharpen it in just a few minutes. If you need a tool like this for brush, limbs, briers etc, you can't for wrong on this purchase. AMAZON shipped it very quickly as always. I am very satisfied with this purchase and once you see it, I believe you will be very glad that you bought it..............

Steel is too brittle for such a tool
Well, sometimes you should listen to the reviews. A number of reviews for this product had mentioned that the machete broke easily. I thought, nah, no one would really sell a product like this and not have the stainless steel properly heat treated. I had used this machete several times, being somewhat cautious with it because of the reviews and had no problem with it when cutting down small saplings. But yesterday I needed to remove a larger (3 1/2 inch diameter) sapling that was growing right up next to the trunk of a larger established tree. It was in such a position that I could not strike the sapling with the mid portion of the blade but rather needed to use the up-curved end portion of the machete. On the third strike, which was not a particularly powerful stroke, the machete broke cleanly at the location shown in the photograph. Moral of the story - the stainless steel was far too brittle for use in such a tool. I don't know if the steel was rolled (likely and probably accounts for some of the brittleness of the steel) or hammer forged (probably not), but whatever the case I do NOT recommend this machete.

I find it hard to imagine not having one of these with me when I go brush hogging in the forest
Or even walking in the forest for that matter. And I'm not even talking about leaving my own property. This is a nice, heavy machete that needs properly sharpening when you first buy it After that you should sharpen it every 20-30 mins of use and you will have yourself an invaluable tool. I have one strapped to the loader arm on my tractor. When brushogging in the forest and the going gets thorny, I get the machete out. Seriously. once you learn how to use a machete you'll find it the most efficient and satisfying tool you have. I'm not being condescending but, like an ax, it's worth taking the time to learn how to use one of these properly. Your cutting will be more effective and you will avoid damage to your wrists, elbows and shoulders. I figured out the hard way what happens when your muscles are actively driving the blade when it hits something hard or if you pull the punch at the last minute.
