Fun, novelty gift item is great for kids (just don't expect high fidelity sound)
QUICK SUMMARY: Fun for kids, this is a good novelty gift to give to an older child (say, 6+) or very early teenager. Don't expect it to sound better than a transistor radio's speaker, though (but they will sound better than an iPhone's internal speaker). For me, this is a 3-star item, but my younger kids like it so much, I've bumped it up to 4-stars since they are really the intended audience here.BACKGROUND: I chose to review this item just because I thought some of my kids would enjoy testing it with me. I was right. It was my college-aged son who first got the speakers out of the box, but it was my younger kids who most enjoyed the light effects these speakers gave off. The speakers are USB powered, so we used a battery pack we use with our iPods and iPhones to supply the power. Then, we connected the audio to my iPhone. The speaker dancing light display starts when my iPhone's volume slider is moved half-way to the right. At two-thirds volume, you get quite a nice, splashing light display. At full volume, you get bursts of lit water and very distorted speaker sound. As far as sound goes, these speakers are equivalent to a battery-operated, transistor radio. They have no bass and they amplify sound without making it sound good. But young kids don't really care about that (mine didn't, anyway). They just enjoyed the novelty of this item, and when I suggested boxing these up and donating them after I finished writing this review, they objected. That says something about the appeal this item has for young kids.WHAT WE NOTICED:- The light display corresponds to the volume of the speakers, but not necessarily to the beat of the music- There are four LED colors in each speaker: orange/yellow, green, blue, red- One speaker slightly emphasized blue, one emphasized green- The color display cast onto our ceiling above the speakers was blue/green (almost no red and no yellow)WHAT WE LIKE:- The whole splashing, colorful light thing is admittedly cool, especially in a darkened room- This would be a cool effect for a kids' room or if you're having a party and need background music (but not great-sounding music)- We liked the light display cast onto our ceiling as well as the splashy water display- My young kids thought these speakers sounded okay (for the money, they do sound okay)- The audio cable fits my iPhone without me having to remove the iPhone's protective case- The portable design (when used with a USB battery pack) makes these very versatile as to where you can use themWHAT COULD BE BETTER:- Would be really nice to turn-off the speakers and just connect these to an audio system where the music is played with high-fidelity speakers while these do just the whole dancing water show thing- Would be nice to have a sensitivity adjustment so the dancing water display is user-adjusted irrespective of the volume level- Would be nice if the red and yellow-orange lights were not overpowered by the green-blue LED lights (noticeable on the ceiling)CONCLUSION: This is a great novelty gift for someone who is entranced with colorful lights and sound, and isn't discriminating when it comes to audio fidelity. Ok novelty speakers 3.5 stars
The media could not be loaded. This dancing water speaker set sold by MM Electronics is identical to the set (with very minor differences) being sold by DE, except this set is currently 20 dollars cheaper than the DE set. My review will reflect the minor difference (such as cable length) but the speakers are essentially the same.Included with the 2 speakers is a male to male audio cable (3.5 mm approximately 3 feet 3 inches in length), a micro power cable (old style, approximately 3 feet 1 inch in length and has to be plugged into a USB outlet to work), in addition a cable connection built into one speaker for connection to the other. There is no instruction manual with the directions for use written on the back of the box.The total height of the speakers is 9 inches tall but the actual speakers is about 1 and a half inches in diameter with the speaker box part is less than 4 inches with the clear glass with the water jets taking up the rest of the height.Any music device that has an audio (AUX) output (headphone) jack can be connected to these speakers as they are easy to connect. These worked and sounded exactly the same as the DE speakers that I previously tested. The 4 color water jets look pretty cool when they are dancing to the music. The sound of these speakers are ok but not great though as this is really more of a novelty type item more than a serious sound system speaker. These have very little volume and very little bass. I have used and reviewed smaller speaker sets (without the water jets) smaller than these that put out a better sound and bass than these. The water jets are cool and fun but I can also see these drying out over time (as they really have very little water in them) and there is no way to refill them. I also wish these had an off/on switch as there is no way to turn them off unless you unplug them.Overall these are a fun small speaker that kids would probably love but the speaker sound should really be improved for use at anything more than a novelty type piece for adults. These do have a better price at 20 bucks than the DE brand and because of that price get rated a bit higher at 3 and a half starsI was provided a sample for review and I do not promise a good rating in return, nor am I affiliated with this company or compensated in any way. I am just a regular Amazon customer who shops a lot on Amazon.

A Fun Light & Water Show The Kids Will Love
This is one of those products where your expectations will greatly influence how much you like or dislike it. When I saw these speakers online I knew they were not built for sound as much as they were the gimmick of the dancing water and as such I didn't expect them to blow away higher end speakers when it comes to the sound quality they produce. The water, actually oil, and light show is pretty cool and syncs with the music and is something that kids will absolutely love. The speakers paired easily with my iPhone and I could see them being a fixture in a kids room where they want to play some music through their phone or tablet. The sound is decently loud just not super crisp and clear, which again is probably fine for most kids who will be much more impressed with the cool visuals. These speakers are USB powered which means if you're not using them with a PC or laptop you'll need a USB power adapter to use them.Overall these are a fun novelty speaker that produce enough sound and a high enough quality sound to make them a hit with kids or adults who are really distracted by lights and water.I reviewed an identical pair of speakers in the past under another brand name that was priced double what these are so these seem to win the bang for the buck category.Sample provided for review.
