Logic Primer - 2nd Edition

Though this book is written in such a way that you should be able to formally introduce yourself to Symbolic Logic, I would extend that due to some complexities of interpretation, at least in my case, that you also seek other forms of support. This is an extremely complicated, and often interpreted verdantly, topic. The book though is of course written excessively well with clear markings of academia use.

The introduction of this book states that it is meant to be used in a classroom setting with full interaction with an instructor. It describes itself as supplemental material that is not meant to be used on its own. If this is for a class then it is a good book. I've been out of college for 20 years so this book does not make the best refresher I have found. Make sure you buy this only if it is for an interactive instructional setting.

This has been a great support for an introductory logic class I've been taking. The authors point out right at the beginning that this isn't a standalone book and they were correct - at least not for those who have never seen this type of material before. But it's been a good companion for the class I'm in, for sure, and has helped me to understand some of the base principles of logic much more clearly than I did. I would buy this again, and will keep it for future quick reference.

Wish there was a little more direction

Overall, the book is ok but it does not teach you the concepts in detail. If you never had this class before, this book is not for you. It has a lot of exercises but little instruction. If you have a good instructor this book can work, otherwise this book will bring more frustration.JT

Really good textbook, makes everything so much easier to understand. Answers in the back only make it better.
