Good
Fourth of July isn't complete without fireworks, at least to the islanders of Mackinac Island. Allie McMurphy has coordinated this year fireworks displays with world renown technician Randy Rivers. The only trouble is, Allie finds Randy dead in the warehouse office where all the fireworks are stored and he is surrounded by a string of lit firecrackers. The building explodes causes all the fireworks to go off and Allie makes it out, just in time. Now to figure out if it's arson or a murder cover up? As Allie investigates, she finds out there have been small fires caused by arson that have occurred over that last several months. Are the fires and the warehouse explosion connected?Oh, where to start?I enjoyed the character development, building of relationships, and the general story line, but... I found this to be very repetitive on multiple occasions with it becoming tedious at best. It felt like the author was trying to meet a page quota and threw in the repetition to fill the pages. This only succeeded in bogging down the flow of the story. I found myself skimming quite a bit just to get through those pages.Another thing I didn't like and found extremely annoying was the main character, Allie, doing very stupid things. She put herself and other people in danger because of very stupid, immature choices she consciously was making. I didn't find this to be the case in the previous books (if it happened then I didn't notice it as much as in this installment of the series).I honestly did want to see how everything was going to play out. I just found myself not enjoying this book as much as I did the previous ones. Will I continue with this series, I'm not sure? I like a lot of the characters and the setting so I might possibly give the series another chance but I don't think I'll be rushing out to get the next book anytime soon.

Mystery on Mackinac Island
Allie McMurphy is managing the family business on Mackinac Island, a historic hotel with a fudge shop on the first floor. Because she is new to the island as a businesswoman, having taken over the hotel at her grandfather's death, she has managed to take responsibility for the island's famous Fourth of July fireworks display, She has ditched the islands traditional fireworks company for high profile pyro technician that she almost immediately finds dead as the book starts. Talking with the Chief of Police on her cell phone while standing in the fireworks warehouse he has to tell her six times to get out of the building and she refuses each time until he arrives and pulls her out just in time to not be blown up as the warehouse explodes. Her attitude to buck authority seems to repeat itself throughout the book as she and her dog keep stumbling on fires and dodging explosions. There are two mysteries to solve. Was the pyro tech murdered or was it an accident and who is setting fires? Allie's sleuthing puts her life in danger as it starts appearing the incidents are aimed at causing her death.

Love this series and the location
I love this series but especially the location. It takes place on MacKinac Island which you can only get to by Ferry or Airplane. There are no vehicles allowed on the island except for ambulance and fire trucks. You have to walk, take a horse drawn carriage or ride a bike. The thought of no traffic sounds delightful. Allie McMurphy runs the McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop that has been in her family for years. Even though she is trying to make new flavors of fudge especially for the 4th of July celebration she is also in charge of the firework presentation. The guy she hired was killed when all the fireworks exploded in the warehouse with him in it. After investigating it was decided it was not an accident. Then there are several fires in the area and then a bomb is found. Then there are several attempts on Allie and her family and friends. Allie and her friends need to find out who is behind all the fires and bombs before someone else gets hurt. A little too much romance for me but a great cozy mystery so I just overlook it. (less)

Oh say can you see????
What can I say about a series with a plucky protagonist who takes over her grandpa's hotel on Mackinac Island, is adopted by a delightful maltipoo, has made some wonderful friends on the island and is a devotee of fudge and how to demonstrate and sell delicious variations. In this 3rd installment of the series(All Fudged Up & To Fudge or Not To Fudge)..we continue to see Allie's propensity to discover - thanks to Mal/Marshmallow) dead bodies on the Island. This time it hits too close to home as Allie's relationship with a certain hunk develops, and her support group continues to grow while there is an arsonist loose and she is under deadline(so to speak) to find a pyrotech professional to carry out the 3 day fireworks events that are tradition on the 4th of July weekend). This will keep you guessing as you continue in the grip of what the heck is going on. Nancy Coco, aka Parra...sure knows the recipe for keeping the reader hooked. Enjoy.

Cute series!
I love Allie so much! She's such a fun character. I'm really enjoying getting to know her through these books. The island that she lives on seems like such a cute place and I would seriously move there if it were farther south. I'm not yet convinced about the love interest and I think she would be better off with another guy. I'm excited to see what comes next!
