Beginner's book and short ferment bread
This is definitely a book for beginners; which the title doesn't indicate. I'm fairly new to true sourdough baking, and this still wasn't useful for me. If you have never tried sourdough baking, then this could be your book. It will start you from day one with the starter, and walk you through using it from then on out. I would have considered keeping this for a few of the recipes (although they all only work with this book's 'mother starter'), but true sourdough baking is a 2 or 3 day process - which is what makes sourdough, well, sourdough. These recipes take anywhere from 4 hrs to 6 hrs - start to finish. There is no long fermenting time with any of the recipes, which is where all of the benefits of sourdough take place.

Thoughtful, Doable Wild Yeast Sourdough Bread
I used to have a starter but the instructions said to "dump" or use 3/4c a day... this was just too much to deal with or waste. Maryjane's method is far superior. There are recipes to use the excess starter and methods to maintain the starter in the refrigerator and take it out when needed. No more crazy waste. Clear instructions and beautiful pictures for several types of grain, including gluten free. The pizza crust was great, pancakes also great. My batter bread was meh, but I intend to do a Batard this weekend, or English muffins. Thank you Maryjane! I love creating healthy homebaked goodies.

Beautifully done
I've been baking with sourdough steadily for the last three years and quite often before that. I decided on a whim to try this book. I LOVED it. Everything about it! I use what I have on hand but use her ideas and have beautiful gluten free sourdough bread for the first time ever! Plus, the regular sourdough stays "happier" and my pancakes are phenomenal. (I do sour the starter and flour before following the rest of her recipe) I would buy this book again!!

Gluten-free Rice Sourdough is amazing!
This book has opened up a whole new world of sourdough breads, especially the gluten free versions. I love the rice sourdough and I mix it with Namaste Perfect Blend flour for outstanding gluten-free bread. PLUS my body can’t tolerate commercial yeast products but has no problems with this natural sourdough!

Old Fashioned Baking.
This is an old fashioned version of bread baking. The story of their bakery is interesting but be aware the recipes are in cups not weight.

FLOUR + WATER + AIR
All you need is water, flour and air to create you own "Mother." Step-by-step instructions using many different flours. Mary Jane has done a great job in photos, history and testing of her recipes. The only think I find distracting is the use of several fonts —making it difficult to read. When it comes to fonts, more is not better. Artistically this is lovely to look at, and the recipes are great.

Phenomenal book and recipes. Am on day 5 of mother. She is bubbling and doing wonderful! Start up for buying a lot of recommended equipment, bowls, pans, etc is a little pricey, but I have gotten everything on amazon and is well worth it. This book will be my bread bible!

Fantastic book for all interested in sourdough bread, etc!
My very kind of woman! Maryanne is very thorough with her recipes, types of flour to use and her step by step instructions. It's a clean organised book. Not at all scattered and disorganised.MaeyJane knows her stuff!MaryJane's grain mill is a dream!!One slight drawback is that the paper used is super thin. But don't let that be your deciding factor! It's a truly fantastic book to have!!

Equipment costs mega-bucks in UK
If you live in the UK, don’t buy this book unless you are wealthy. There is a long list of “nothing else will do” equipment. The first, a lidded Pyrex type bowl of a certain shape, with a lid £60 Amazon price, and so it goes on. There’s a lot of it! Thankfully, Imonly bought the Kindle version as I didn’t look at it properly until it was too late for a refund.

No metric conversion but easy to convert recipes
Very informative book with beautiful photos. So far I have made 11 of the bread recipes with absolute success. Being Australian we use metric measurements and celsius but these were easy conversions to make. Very happy with purchase.
