Best beginner guitar books on the market!
What can I say? This book has exceeded all of my expectations! This is the next book written after Guitar For Absolute Beginners. I'd start with the first book if you are new to guitar like I was. The book is broken into ten well written lessons with the idea of completing one lesson a week. With the first book, I did more than one lesson a week. Sometimes four. I had to slow my pace down a bit while working through this book, it definitely starts to get a little more intricate towards the end. But it is well worth taking your time to master these newly learned skills because you'll sound awesome after and can be so much more creative. I never thought I'd be learning palm muting and scratching this early on! Like the first book written, the author includes personal little stories throughout which keep your lessons fun and interesting. I never got bored going through these books. Dan Emery, is such a talented teacher even out of the classroom. I feel like I'm actually taking lessons with these books and am amazed at how far I've come from first starting. You won't be disappointed. I'm looking forward to when the other books become available cause I'm hooked on these!

One of the better books, but I believe it's best to use it with an instructor
The book is nicely organized and written. I would have given it five stars if it were intended to be used completely standalone - which is what I was looking for - but it is best suited for use with an instructor. I found the sidebar type stories fun to read, but I would have preferred more self-paced instruction in that space. I believe the school offers courses that would complement the book.

I really like how the author breaks up the lessons with stories ...
I purchased this book after having completed the Guitar for Absolute Beginners book from the same group. I really like how the author breaks up the lessons with stories and illustrations. It really helps me. Some folks won't like it, but it works for me. I do a lesson a week and really try to master it. I can tell I'm getting better. Will purchase other books from NYC Guitar School if they come out with more.

No play along
The book is actually ok as text book and has some interesting concepts to master. It focuses on your strum hand and improves skills required to play with others (and sound better by yourself). The thing that annoyed me is that to get access to the book's video on the NYCGuitarSchool you have to pay $89. Once you do, you get the video content and you get a PDF of the book for which you just paid $15 in the kindle store. The book should come with a discount for the content on the NYCGuitarSchool website. This is bad karma!

This whole series of books is so excellent! Easy and fun to read
This whole series of books is so excellent! Easy and fun to read, and extremely educational. They make guitar so much less daunting, and they are great encouragement to begin playing songs immediately.
