Classic gaming mouse for business use
You have probably already read how great of a gaming mouse this is. Like others, I used it in the 2000s as my main gaming mouse. It's really a nice mouse. But, these days I work from home and keep having my mice loose tracking on me. I write code for a living, and I don't need much from a mouse. But, I need it to track correctly. Unfortunately, the standard logitech wireless ones I keep buying, keep loosing its tracking. Thing is, I still have my old 518 from 2007 ish. Guess what? It still works. No tracking issues and I put that thing to work on a nightly basis for years. But, the middle mouse doesn't scroll so I needed a new one. So to avoid having to buy another mouse too soon, I decided to get my old standard and pickup the 518. The new design works just fine, but be sure you are right handed. Does anyone use a mouse with their left hand? Not sure, but this mouse was designed to be used with your right hand. Its got the perfect indent for your thumb which is one of the great features. Its a perfect fit. It doesn't have the nice rubber anymore, but that's not a big deal. Its cheaper now so thats fine. Sensitivity buttons above and below the middle mouse button is nice as well. Just tap to change sensitivity as you need. Remember, this thing was made for performance. This is a wired mouse. There is no wireless functionality, so you have to plug it in. This could be good/bad depending on what you need it for. But, just keep in mind, you have to plug the usb into a port. It took a few mins for it to work, surprisingly, but after a few mins it worked fine. We will see if they still use quality parts in this mouse and it lasts a long time. But, I'm feeling good about it so far. Sometimes if you work all day with a mouse, just buy a gaming mouse for quality. The standard cheap ones don't last.

The security blanket of gaming mice
Call it what you want, the MX518/G400/G400S/MX518 Legendary keeps coming back for good reason: it's a dead simple mouse with no frills and a whole lot of heft for those with hands on the larger side (And by hands I mean hand, lefties are left out on this design unfortunately) or those that prefer their mice to have some weight. Set the DPI to 800, turn the polling rate to 1,000 Hz, turn off smoothing and acceleration and you've got a mouse FPS junkies have been trusting for 15 years. As always, the thin cable is the weak spot on this line, but having used a G Pro for 3 years with the heavy braided cable constantly getting stuck on everything without it being bungee'd up, I'd rather just be gentle with a thinner and lighter cable. Pros: +Ergos, size and weight best described as "It's chonk." Those with larger hands or those that like to rest their hand on the mouse will come back to this mouse like a long lost friend. This has to be Logitech's longest running gaming mouse both in years and number of refreshes. +Unlike the G Pro, that heft helps it to not be bullied by its cable. The thin, rubber cable also doesn't get stuck on things nearly as much as the Pro's braided cable. +Sensors have been updated to Logitech's latest, but I can't tell the difference from my G400S or G Pro. You still don't have to worry about angle snapping. YMMV: #Logitech's G Hub sucks but that's not necessarily this mouse's fault. Unless you need to be frequently messing with this or other device's settings, feel free to save your settings to the mouse's internal memory and uninstall G Hub to save 250 Megs. You certainly won't need lighting settings or anything. #This is personal taste but the "G" branding is boring. Logitech had a chance to shout out the MX518's old Logitech logo on the mouse and with the included sticker but didn't. I do like the new glossy silver fade-to-black design and prefer it to the old 518's quicksilver design. Cons: -Ergos, size and weight best described as "dated." Those with smaller hands, those that claw grip, lefties, weaker hands etc, will find that they've purchased a brick with 2005's idea of what a hand should contour to. -The cable is still going to be what fails first. It's thin, rubber and connected to the mouse with only a bit of strain relief. There's replacement cables and feet out there if you're in need. -The G400S had a kind of tacky rubbery feeling to its outer shell and sides? The MX518L is all glossy plastic and hard plastic on the sides. Not great for sweaty hands.

Great gaming mouse
I have used 2 of this exact model. The first one lasted 15 years so when it died I wanted the exact same on as it was very well made and had high end gaming specs. It is a wired mouse so maybe not popular but best performance for gaming.

High quality Gaming mouse, medium quality materials
Aug 10 2021 Edit: I am updating my review after a year and a half of using the mouse, And I must give it 5 stars for consistency without material loss (comparing a different mouse I was using beforehand). This mouse is a beast, fit perfectly for small hand, comfortable and reliable. I guess I wouldn't be switching Logitech with any other, tried it before and got disappointed. This is a perfect mouse - highly recommended! ---- First review: Using this mouse for a couple of months now. I'll go right into it: Pros *Perfect ergonomic (for my hand) *Programmable buttons *Manual DPI adjusting via a software - works well *Simple and beautiful design (A matter of taste really) Cons *The cable feels cheap, doesn't looks like it'll last long *The materials doesn't feel top notch like another mouse I had from a different company. Overall: 4 out of 5 Sum: I wish they would use a better cable and a higher quality plastics. But even with that it's an amazing mouse, fit perfectly for small/medium hands, accurate for gaming, great software, works flawlessly.

A mouse for certain hands
This is a fine mouse for the money, as it has it were it counts. The buttons feel good and are responsive, the weight of the mouse is good, and the tracking sensor is reliable. The build quality isn't perfect however. The mouse to me is very ugly with the grey plastic having a cheap sparkle to it. The plastic used in both the grey portion and the black outer portion feel a little cheap, however they seem sturdy enough after using the mouse a bit. The cord is also unwrapped, which is a little bothersome, but not a deal breaker. My biggest concern is that the mouse is build for a 1-3-1 hold, meaning three fingers should sit on top of the mouse. This was pretty uncomfortable to me as I had always used a 1-2-2 hold. I adapted pretty quickly, as I did not want to return the mouse, but others may not want to try and use a mouse unsuited to their preferences. Overall, it is a very good mouse for the price if it fits the hand, if not and you are unwilling to relearn the grip, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Excellent product.
This is a great product. I am on my third one. I bought the last one for $59.99. I just went to replace it and I see the cost is $299.99. What's up with that price?

Just got this in the mail today, and WOW!
I've been involved in the pc gaming community for a good amount of years now, mainly playing fps games like counterstrike, call of duty, overwatch, and so forth to apex now; so, I've used a good deal of mice over the years, to name some: Zowie fk-1, zowie ec1-A, logitech g703, logitech g203, Logitech g403, and the razer deathadder, and none of them feel as comfortable to hold (palm/claw hybrid) and as precise as the hero sensor in this revamped version of the mx518. I've always heard good things about the original mx518, but I could never justify spending upwards of $150 for new one or upwards of $50 for a used one that typically had some sort of functional or cosmetic damage. When Logitech announced the mx518 remake I immediately ordered one and I already love it. It feels very comfortable to grip, has a nice look to it (I like the smooth, sparkly design on top that has a sort of ombre effect going from a dark black at the base of the mouse to a lighter grey at the top of the mouse that reminds me of the original mx518's color), and like I mentioned before the hero 16k feels like one of the smoothest, most responsive sensors I've used in a while. First impressions, 10/10. I'll make an edit in the future after I've used it for different games. Thanks for bringing the legend back Logitech! Edit: 2/28/19 Pros: - Great ergonomics for right hand mouse users - Design is simple, but looks great. This mouse does not have any RGB or lighting, which isn't a problem with me but could be to someone who wants a mouse with lighting for their flashy set up. - The cord is rubberized and is thinner than other Logitech mice I've used before like the g203 (rubber) and the g403 (braided), which is nice because it fits into my mouse bungee a little easier but isn't so thin that it slides around or comes out. - This mouse weighs 101 grams which isn't the lightest mouse on the market but still feels very manageable and slides across the surface of my mouse pad with ease. - Hero 16k sensor is one of the best optical sensors on the market right now, feels very responsive and I definitely feel a difference in performance over the g203 I was using before getting the mx518. Cons: - The only issue I've had so far with this mouse is the glossy surface. Although it's sufficiently grippy and aesthetically pleasing (to me, might not be your cup of tea), if you have sweaty hands residue does build up on the surface. Nothing a quick wipe wont fix though.

Irregular mice; how is a new mouse supposed to be?
Quality control issues: I ordered the MX518 Legendary as soon as it was available, since I remember my original MX518 was so great for years. The first one I had had the mouse skates installed out of the guide, so I got a replacement. That's when I noticed the clicks between the two were vastly different. Once seems to be sticky, hard to click, and the other has longer travel. Both are supposed to be new yet feel so different, which makes me distrust that there's any QC done at all. Gaming: In games where you have to click constantly for motion, both new Mx518s had sticky click, or where just too difficult (it would be inconsistent) to consistently click fast. My older Logitech G Pro Hero has no trouble here. The shape is really comfortable, and the texture has the same feel as the original Mx518, which tends to get sticky. The sensor tracks as well as the Logitech G Pro Hero, having the same HERO 16K sensor. Overall the inconsistent clicks just made it not suitable for gaming where you have to constantly and consistently maintain your position by clicking. Conclusion: The Logitech MX518 Legendary mouse has a great shape, excellent sensor, and a great reputation. What I experienced with two new MX518 Legendary mice were inconsistent clicks, improper mouse skate installation, and differing click travel on both new mice. I do think this mouse would be fantastic for FPS games though and would have loved a proper working version of it. S/N: 1844LZ06MHA8 had proper mouse skates(the right one had a fingernail mark on it), and higher travel distance for clicks. S/N: 1844LZ0GBLM8 had lower travel distance and poorly installed mouse skates.
