All you need. Not too complex.
I bought one for my road bike and liked it, so I got a second one for my mountain bike (you can keep track of two bikes separately on the same unit, but that seems more trouble than it's worth. I scratched up one (user error) and replaced it with this one. Worked well for years. You need the directions to set it up, but the directions are clear and available online if you lose the ones that come with it. It takes a standard 2023 battery and they last a year or two. When you replace the battery, you need to set the wheel size again, but you can set the odometer to whatever it was before you swapped the battery. It's easy to read as you ride. I mostly use it on club rides to follow cue sheets. You don't need to fiddle with any buttons unless you're resetting the time of day or something. To reset the ride odometer, you just nudge the whole unit forward. When you start to ride, it turns itself on. It's easy to remove when you need to, but I leave mine on the bike all the time, whether I'm riding or it's on the rack. It stays on securely. The magnets stay on securely too. No complaints.

Good, but not perfect
I used this on a couple of Bacchetta Giro recumbent bikes (20 and A26). The wire to the sensor is just long enough for this. It might get a little tight if you are tall and have your handlebars set high, but I have a few inches to spare. I like this because I can see all of the parameters I want to monitor on one screen: current speed, trip distance, average speed, trip time, and maximum speed. I have no use for displays that scroll or cycle through readings. I also prefer a wired system like this so that interference and connecting are not an issue, as well as avoiding extra batteries and extra battery drain. There are a few issues I have with this, most of them minor.1) The "button" mechanism where you slide the computer in its mount to change the display is not great. It is a little awkward compared to a normal button. It can also get stuck, so that a push to change the display turns into a "push for 3 seconds to clear the trip data" instead. Since it always comes out of sleep mode in the first display, and I always want to use the third display, this gives me several opportunities per ride to clear my trip odometer and statistics.2) It appears that the time it takes to detect that I have stopped is not removed from the trip statistics. This means that average speeds are a little lower if you make many stops.3) The display update interval is about three seconds. I know that I could have written the firmware to get this down to one second or less. This is fairly minor, but can be annoying.4) A second one of these that came with a bike I bought has trouble with the entire computer being reset unexpectedly. This doesn't happen often, and may be associated with getting wet; I haven't completely figured it out yet. A fresh battery did not solve it.5) On both of my computers, the display often has a dark blemish at the bottom, probably at the ground connection. This is cosmetic, as it does not obscure the characters on the display. I think it may only happen for a while after powerup.6) The setup routine is tedious and prone to errors. This is probably unavoidable, and should be rarely encountered.7) Data and calibration are not saved through a battery change, so you need to be very sure to save your calibration setting and to write down your odometer reading before changing the battery. In the case of my second unit which has reset problems, this means that chunks of the odometer reading are lost because it resets without warning.Overall I can recommend this, and given the lack of options in wired computers, I would probably buy it again.

The Only Computer We Even Consider
All basic speedometers do the the same thing and with the same accuracy. Of the numerous ones we've tried the PB Proteges are by far the easiest to use, and have the most practical display. They are the only bike computers we even consider buying anymore. When somebody gets a new bike we just immediately order another one.Quite honestly, with each member of our family having several bikes the PB Protege series are the only speedos we can actually remember how to use. With simple one push opertion it is easy to select what display you want, or reset the trip stats buy holding the button a little longer. No more being unable to figure out how to reset the trip, get the mode you want, or worse yet accidentally reseting the calibration as you are standing there ready to ride.I mean imagine owning several digital watches that you have to learn and remember how to use. Then imagine your wife and kids also having several watches that you don't even use yourself. It can be incredibly complicated trying to remember how to use them all, and if you make a mistake you have to pull out a tape measure, roll the wheel a few times, and figure out how to re-program the unit. This is what it was like before every family ride until we started switching everything over to PB speedos.Ease of use aside, the display is nice and well laid out showing just about everything you might want to know on a single screen. No need to fumble with the speedo mid ride. These speedometers also seem to hold up well. Of the half dozen or so we've owned, the only one we saw fail was after several years of wet, and sometimes even salty 4 season commuting. If you get off on gadgetry and complicated technology then you should buy another speedometer. If you just want a speedometer that does it's job without having to think about it so that you can go ride a bike, then consider one of the Planet Bike Proteges.

I has owed many Cateye and other branded bike computers. This is the first time I owe a Planet Bike bike computer. I bought it based on the positive reviews here. But very disappointed. The speed is not accurate and slow to update. It would take like two seconds for the speed to update. The distance measured is not accurate also. It seems like it missed counting the wheel revolutions. I wonder if mine is defective or not. Tried to increase the wheel circumference and did not help. Moved the wheel sensor closer, didn't help neither.

look nice but didn't work
I bought it because I needed a computer during the bike run for a triathlon. I received it, I installed it. It worked for one ride and then never worked again. I received it two days before the race. It worked the day before but not during the race. I was very disappointed. This computer may work for a little while but it is still a cheap product.Very disappointed and I don't recommend it.
