Can you take this through airport security?

Mine was confiscated at Kuwait City airport. All tools, no matter the size or shape, are prohibited in carry-ons there.

As a beer bottle opener, can this open a bottle with a single pry? My current one CANNOT and I would like to replace it with something that can.

Accepted Answer

Yes it can. I have a lot of "practice" opening beer bottles. Probably much better than most keychain bottle openers but not like a full size bottle opener. It is adequate for a keychain tool opener but smaller than traditional openers.

First time poster, long time reader. I hate biting into my oranges to peel them. Is the shard an effective alternative orange opening device?

Maybe... The tip isn't all that sharp, but I've used it to cut open boxes sealed with packing tape. You probably could use this to cut open the orange peel, but I'm sure a knife would be more effective.

Yes: in a pinch, this can absolutely be used to open cans. Now, there are many types of cans, but here's some details:

- If you are referring to beverage cans
   + The pry bar can fit under the tab if you cannot pull it with your fingertips/fingernails
   + The piercing tip of the Phillips-head can easily pierce the side of an aluminium can
      > Usage for draining into a cup
      > Usage for "shotgunning" beers (can easily and quickly create a hole in the bottom-side of the can)

- If you are referred to canned food
   + You can work the bottle opener around the rim, piercing the top lid 20-30 times
   + The Phillips-head comes quite sharp and pointy, and it could likely be used to pierce a can as needed (to drain, or to open around the edge of the lid)
   + There are certainly easier options, but this is so easy to carry with you any time you are away from home (since it is designed to be on your key-chain) and you may rely on this use when you don't have something better
