This book is divided into three sections. In the first section, you will find practical advice on choosing the necessary tools and equiopment as well as hints on mixing colors—one of the trickier skills to master until you have learned some of the basic properties of color. Next, the techniques used in watercolor painting are explained in detail, from the most basic like laying washes and reserving highlights to some of the more unusual and exciting methods like wax-resist or spattering paint. Tutorials and more than 100 step-by-step sequences demonstrate how to paint a wide range of subjects, including landscapes, buildings, people and still life. Over 180,000 copies sold worldwide. Review: Great Book - I am really enjoying this book. It starts with some general information on colors, paints and other materials and tools and techniques, lots on techniques. Then it moves on to flowers grouping them by shape. There are tutorials sprinkled throughout. The next thing is a directory of all the flowers in the book grouped by color and listed by name and with a little photo. After you choose a flower you go to its listing. They are organized by color and alphabetically . Which shape grouping is also included. There is a little box at the edge of the page that tells you what colors you need. There are step by step (usually 3 or 4) instructions with pictures. Between colors are beautiful examples of floral watercolor paintings. While not every flower could be included; there is enough here for you to use what is provided to figure out how to paint most any that are not in the book. You could also use this for other media like colored pencil. Review: This book is great - This is a little handy binder book with illustrations on how to paint and the colors used. It demonstrates in a few steps which is very easy to follow. It is NOT a botanical drawing/painting book, but a book where the aspiring artist can have fun. It has a section of studying the flower shapes as well as a directory of garden flowers in red, blue, purple, pink, etc., It also has a small section on leaves. It is a grand little book to have sitting next to your bed or at a table by your chair while you watch tv. I have many books on drawing but this quaint little book is my favorite when I just want to have fun, as I am studying botanical drawing and painting and this book relieves the stress of being precise. The pages are 6 inches by 7 1/2 inches with the book itself being 8 inches by 6 1/2 inches. It is just right to take anywhere with you. The best part is that is lists just about every popular flower one can think of as it is 189 pages not counting the index. I am in no way associated with this book. I am just a beginner in watercolor and always in search of a good reference book and an idea of what colors to use.

Fields of Flowers
The flowers depicted in this book are simply beautiful. If I were a beginner, attempting to draw them based on the book's instructions, I would not succeed. However, if you already know how to draw and want to develop your talents in the various watercolor techniques, this book will be quite helpful. An overview includes: Materials and Techniques (ex: washes; wet-in-wet; hard and soft edges; controlling paint flow brushmarks; composing flower paintings); Studying Flower Shapes (ex: bell; trumpet; multiheaded; spike; cup and bowl; simple star)Directory of Flowers (ex: gardens of red; orange; yellow; green; purple; white). Another way of using this book is to see how colors for pictures are grouped together. It could be useful when choosing color palettes for your home, or even creating contrast to showcase artwork you already own.

Good reference book
There is a lot of info packed into this small book! The most basic info is also included: color, composition, painting techniques, paper and supplies, etc. so beginners will benefit, too. As an intermediate painter but new to flowers, I found it to be extremely helpful. I especially liked the Flower Painters Palette page that lists recommended paints with the "must have" colors noted. The flowers are grouped according to color. Each kind of flower includes 3- or 4-step how-to-paint illustrations listing paint colors used. This book contains a wealth of information, about 140 plants--flowers, leaves and berries--are represented within its 192 pages including a 3-page index. I like the wire-spiro binding, the book lays flat. Highly recommend it to those wanting to learn how to paint flowers. There are examples of many artists' work in addition to the how-to illustrations exposing the reader to a variety of styles. This book is printed in full color (and nicely printed.) It's small size was not a problem for me, I learned a lot and find this a great addition to my reference library.

An excellent book for all artist levels of watercoloring.
This book is a marvelous book for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced watercolorist. With the book being spiral bound, the pages will lay flat so that the drawing and painting of the flowers are an easy reference for the artist. The book also references the different colors of flower gardens (pink, yellow, white, blue, ect) to help in the selection of flowers to be drawn and painted. The different kinds, shapes, and colors of leaves and berries are included too. I am very glad to have this book in my library and highly recommend the book to anyone, who is looking for an artist bible of flowers.

Extremely helpful
As a beginning watercolor painter, I found this book very helpful. Flowers are my favorite thing to paint and this book has so many beautiful illustrations along with helpful hints on how the artist painted them, that I turn to it anytime I spend time painting. I love the spiral binding which makes it easy to use as a guide while painting. My older sister is just going to start a painting class so I sent her a copy too. I love to paint cards for friends & family and the flowers in this book make it easy to do these cards.

Watercolor Artist's Flower Bible
This is a wonderful little book, just the perfect size does not take up a lot of room on my work table. I loved it and spent a lot of money before I finally came across exactly the Flower painting book I wsas looking for. If you are wanting to disect flowers before you paint them, the book for you would be looking for is The Art of Plant Evolution. However if you want a good solid book on nothing but painting flowers then the Watercolor Artist's Flower Bible is the book you want. It get's right to the point of sketching and painting flowers, it does not go into other paintings that I am not interest in, or books that I probably already purchased that tend to make one believe you are getting good sketching and watercoloring of flowers tedchniques, books that I have purchased that totally missed the point. I have truly spent a fortune on books regarding painting flowerss etc., and almost all of them have been a disapointment. This wonderful little book goes right into "flowers" and after my first hour of sitting down sketching and painting flowers I am thrilled with the results. Claire Waite Brown does a great job showing how the most ususal color combinations really do produce some beautiful flowers. Before you spend another cent I hope you will save your money and make this Book your number one with learning to paint and sketch flowers. There are lots and lots of color choices that I loved and I produced some great finished results. The illustrations are wonderful in a step by step sketch/watercolor, the print of this book is nice and dark, unlike a book I ordered earlier this week and can hardly read the print, the color combo's are wonderful, and there are lots and lots of pretty flowers in this book to whip up in no time. The pictures in this book are not sloppy with color running into color, page after page of the same thing. I feel comfortable recommending it for purchase, I love the book. I hope you will enjoy it too!

No photos-just more paintings/pros and cons
The only reason I ordered this was that I thought it would have photos, it does not. It was described as a great reference. Not so much. And I’m not fond of painting another painting. I rather paint my style and not what someone else is seeing. For those who like to do that the book would be good as it does have a ton of flowers with decent instructions. The thing I’d caution is they are quite small. Unfortunately for me it’s a wash and will have to return it. So for me it’s a 3 due to the size and lack of photos.

Fun to paint flowers
Thought I would try some watercolour painting, having been reasonably successful with oils. This helped me along the way immensely as the instructions and pictures, from start to finish, were easy to follow and allowed one to make nice pictures.

Very very basic
Hmm, this is a very basic book. It may be called a bible, but it is quite disappointing. The pictures are very little, the technique totally basic. I would not buy it again.

Maravilhoso!
Livro lindo, em um formato diferente (espiral)! Ótimo para referência mas não se trata de um livro para iniciantes pois não mostra o passo a passo completo das pinturas. No máximo, mostra 3 passos de cada flor! Mas recomendo.
