Excellent Strings
These strings have good tone and a great lifespan. Gone through 2 sets and would say that there is no deterioration in tonal quality until about the 5 month mark. Your mileage may vary. The only complaint I have about these strings is that a little more sustain would be nice but these are light strings. They are smooth and easy to play. You may have to lighten your attack slightly to avoid fret crashing. As the preview reviewer noted, these are a great match for Schecter 5 string basses which need super long scale. I'm using them on a cheap Riot Deluxe.

Best strings.
The D'addorio strings are my favorite strings of all the name brands that have been strung onto my bass guitars. The stay bright longer and deliver consistent tones that other strings cannot maintain with time.

Bright and Easy on the Fingers!
I typically use the EXL170's and they sound great, but seem to get dull relatively quickly. The coated version sounds just as good and so far have held their brightness much longer. They are a little easier on the fingers as well. I recommend them.

Great strings - Long life, smooth fingering -
I like Elixir coated strings much, but this one lasts as long as Elixirs and less expensive. I'll buy this again!

Alive & Well
I used Dean Markley Blue Steel for years. I was doing a full cleaning and tune up on my bass, decided to give these a try. Though I have a 34" scale, these Super Longs fit perfectly with full string thickness sitting sweetly in the brass nut. The EXP coating is nice and definitely adds ease to lateral motion. They are have a broader spectrum and make the bass sound even more natural. I highly recommend trying a set on next time you restring.

Decent strings but they're not gray as the packaging seems to suggest...
These are fine strings, OK but not spectacular. I specifically bought them because the picture on the packaging suggests some kind of a dark-to-medium gray color, like it has been chemically or electrically treated. But alas that wasn't true. These strings are as bright and shiny as your average bathroom faucet and there's nothing gray or matte about it.

Kept the bright tone while smoothing the playability
I was reluctant to try these as I had heard the the coated strings cut into the brightness. I originally started out with flat-wounds years ago, then slowly converted to half-wounds. When I picked up a new Music Man Sterling bass, I loved the brightness of the strings they included (I think they were Ernie Ball). I put new half-wounds on, but it sounded way too muddy. Since I put these 'coated' EXP strings on, I've become a believer in their ability to maintain a certain brightness, but also give a nice smooth playability as well. Plus, they're supposed to last twice (or more) as long. That's a nice benefit as well.

Being one that is used to no coating, the feel of the strings needs some getting used to.The strings last longer that normal ones, so that's one definitive value.

Pas de brillance.... Sont-elles vraiment "coated" ?
