Replaces OEM part number 83.031000.01, please see your operator's manual to verify fitment. Why should I consider a magnetic dipstick over the stock dipstick? Like the magnet on the drain plug of several models of automobiles, a magnetic dipstick will pull any ferrous metallic fines from normal engine use that are in the oil. Since these small engines do not have an oil filter, this will help extend the life of the engine. This will help protect your investment while maintaining the functionality of OEM. The high temperature super magnet is partially recessed inside the dipstick and secured with an oil tolerant, high strength (4500 PSI), high temperature retaining compound. This dipstick is identical to my yellow anodized dipstick, but without the anodized finish. There are other versions of magnetic dipsticks for Champions, why should you consider this version? Although the basic principle is the same as others, there are improvements that make this design better: 1. A hexagonal body vs. round body Why is this version hexagonal instead of round? A round piece is difficult to grip, especially when any oil gets on it. A knurled surface is difficult to clean. A hex allows for easier gripping with fingers (or if needed, a wrench). The flat surfaces are also easy to clean. 2. A flat O-ring vs. round O-ring Why is a flat O-ring used? Just as Champion supplies with the dipstick, a flat O-ring is supplied for better sealing and longer life. The dipstick is CNC machined from 6061 aluminum to high quality standards.

Elegant and useful oil dipstick upgrade.
I love my new Champion 3400 dual fuel generator. But there remain a couple of worthwhile upgrades, including this well-machined magnetic oil dipstick. The tip contains a super magnet powerful enough to support my heavy tactical knife. It screws smoothly into the Champion oil reservoir, seals with a gasket and the magnet picks up any tiny slivers of metal that might otherwise work their way into your engine. This solid piece of gear should be standard on all new generators. Five stars!PRO TIP! This neat dipstick arrived as I ran my generator's five-hour break in. I was eager to utilize that magnetic tip so I unscrewed the generator's dipstick--while the engine was running! I received a face full of hot, dirty oil mist for my troubles, which is much less fun than it sounds. What can I say, I don't know squat about engines, but I suggest not following my lead.

No oil markings
The construction of the dip stick is high quality, but it does not have any oil markings on it in order for you to check your oil level. So you have to get down and look into the small oil fill hole or put the original dip stick in to check the oil. Also, the magnetic dip stick transfers heat terrible. It’s to hot to the touch if you run the generator for a while and then want to check the oil after running it. Be sure to let the engine cool or use gloves to take the dip stick out.

Fantastic. No issues.
Love this little oil dipstick. Promptly installed it in a brand new Champion 3800 generator because I wanted to set it up the right way and not leave a bunch of metallic gunk in the engine.I would agree with others that it would be nice to have filler marks on the dip stick itself similar to the stock dip stick, but it's not that big of a deal if you save the pre-measured oil container that comes with most Champion generators. Just pre-fill the container and you're ready to go, no dip stick marks necessary.I will say that one slight con of this design is that it is not tool-less but I can somewhat understand being as it is made of aluminum. You wouldn't expect the drain plug under your car to be "cool to the touch" after running, so I don't think it's reasonable to expect an aftermarket drain plug to be cool either after running the genny.Ultimately this was well worth the purchase if a tad on the more expensive side.

Get it Before You Run Your New Generator
This is a must have for an expensive generator. I put this in before running my generator for the first time. There is a 2-hour break in period for the generator before needing to do an oil change. At that oil change there was a whole bunch of extremely fine material stuck to the tip of the plug. That never would have come out with the used oil, it just would of sat there and continuously recirculated through the engine leading to excessive wear. The only complaint I have is that it is a bit tough to tighten and loosen because the size is much bigger than something in a standard socket or wrench set. Would be nice if they just put a slot for a screwdriver to be used to loosen and tighten in addition to the hex head.

Really works
Great item! I got this for my new 3400 and it fit just right. It was installed before the 5 hour break in period and really pulled a lot of worn off metal out of the oil.

You can save wear & tear on the motor-engine.
A magnetic dipstick will draw metal particles out of the engine oil. Tiny, really, really small though these metal fragments are, they cause wear & tear. I checked my oil level after about 5 hours of the break-in engine period & saw the metal on the magnetic tip of the dipstick. It looks like dirt because it's so small. I wiped it off the magnetic tip & indeed this part actually works well in ridding oil of contaminants. The magnetic end is strong & takes several wipes to get all the metal particles off. Seriously, wipe the end off till you completely clean it all away. Those you-tube reviews sometimes can be useful tools when picking or rejecting purchases. In this case, the magnetic dipstick, though expensive, should save the engine over time. There are several of these magnetic dipsticks on the market. Check carefully which one matches your inverter/generator relative to the length & thread specs. And for your own satisfaction, do the proper maintenance. It costs less to take care of a machine than replacing it prematurely.

Comforting to have a magnetic oil dipstick
This installed perfectly in my Champion Inverter Generator and makes me feel better knowing that I have something that can attract any metal shavings that might be floating around in my generator.

This works!
Fine quality product and it works! Did my first oil change and wound up with a fine metal paste on the end of the dipstick. Less metal circulating in the engine.
