18 month review. Bravo Keen
*** 18 month review *** Bravo Keen, Bravo.Maybe my favorite footwear ever. This purchase is my 2nd pair of the exact same size and color. I don't even need them yet they are still in the box while I continue to milk the first pair. I just wanted to make sure when the first pair died I could continue to wear the same shoes ongoing. That's how much I like these, thats me standing up and applauding Keen. I paid full price for both pairs.First pair review:- Comfortable daily shoes I wear almost every day the last 18 months.- Look great except for that goofy (& functional) Keen toebox.- Perfect footbed for my feet, one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever had.- I've worn these hiking in the Rocky Mountains and tromping through Minnesota snow walking the dog every day. There are many miles on these shoes and they are still going strong.- I think these look great. I love the Copper color and the materials look great.- The shoes are built tough. Uppers look really good after 18 months. Weak point is the sole separating @ the different layers of synthetic sole. Super Glue did fix it and the first pair is still going even though I've almost worn through one layer of black sole under the ball of my one foot.- Waterproofing is STILL strong was over the tops in ice melt earlier this year and water only came in from the top.-The GoreTex does breath pretty good. I can get sweaty feet but it's really not bad going 10 hours in these shoes. My wife doesn't complain about the smell of these compared to my tennis shoes. That's an indicator. So yah, I have a 2nd pair sitting in a box next to my desk because I was afraid Keen would change colors and I really like the copper color of these. I'll go another 2-3 years wearing the same shoe every day. Sounds pretty weird to describe it like that. I don't get OCD in other areas of my life, just these shoes...In addition to the extra pair, I got my wife a set of Keen hikers, and my 25 year old son.Bravo Keen! (and get better glue on the soles)

The most comfortable boot I've ever worn, but...
I'm giving these boots five stars but with reservations. If you're a normal user of "wide" shoes, as I am, keep in mind a couple of things.1) I have the Targhee II in both regular width and wide, and if you put them side to side, the width of the base/platform of the shoe is identical. The "wide" version basically allocates more real estate in the upper, making the leather upper able to expand further, thereby accommodating a wider foot. For myself, who normally wears wide sizes in running shoes, I find that the regular "D" width Keen shoes are fine--Keens are known for having a wide toe box and unless you have significantly wide feet, normal sizes should be fine.2) The wide version of the Targhee II is built to handle the widest of feet. While this is purely an aesthetical gripe (yet not one I'm willing to subtract a star for), for folks that have only moderately wide feet like myself, when you lace up to a satisfactorily comfortable and tight degree, the two halves of the upper are pulled extremely close together making the shoes appear quite different than what you see in the online photos. I don't particularly care about this but some might, as the shoe is definitely less attractive with the laces scrunched together in a tight sequence in the middle of the boot. Recommendation: Unless you have abnormally wide feet, just get the regular width.3) DO order a half size up from what you normally do, despite what some of the reviews may suggest. I normally wear a 10.5W, in this case I ordered an 11W and I have just enough clearance up front for my toes. Whenever you're going to buy Keens, as sizing varies wildly among models and versions, always check the Keen official website for the recommendation on when/if to order a size up. Some of my Keens are fine at 10.5D, some are just right at 11W. Always check the website, and if you're ordering Targhee IIs then ALWAYS order a half size up.I own Danners, Merrells, Eccos and a number of other boot brands. Keens are definitely my favorite. They have stable yet amazingly cushioned soles and outers, and while this obviously translates to them being less durable, I'm willing to sacrifice longevity for the level of comfort I get out of these boots. Merrells are great shoes, but the wide toe box and material quality of Keens win me over.I paid less than $70 for both of my Targhee IIs here on Amazon Prime Day. Steal of a lifetime, and the reason why I'm a Prime member FOR LIFE.JTK

Good boots, but heavy
I'm a letter carrier, I bought these as a transition between summer walking shoes and heavy winter boots. These replaced a pair of Columbia hiking boots from last year. I'm happy with them so far but they are heavy. They are nice and waterproof up to a point. 7 hours of walking in a heavy rain and the left boot finally gave in and got a little wet inside. That's not bad at all. The Columbias these replaced were lighter, were not waterproof, and the tread wore off after 2 months of heavy use. I think the tread which is much chunkier on these boots will last longer. They are comfortable. I'm a heavy guy and these boots are comfortable, but compared to all my other shoes, even my heavy winter LL Bean boots, these boots are big all over. To the point where, even though the interior of the boot is the right size, every once in a while I'll catch the toe or heal on a stair or curb because they just really stick out there. As for hiking, I think I would only wear these if it were wet or muddy, otherwise I'm sticking to lighter hiking shoes.**Update** After a major winter storm where we had two days of heavy wet snow and rain, I would give these boots six stars if I could. I have completely embraced them. During the first day of the storm I wore my much more expensive winter boots from LL Bean. My feet froze all day. The second day I wore these, and my feet were the only part of me that was comfortable all day. I wish they had the pronounced nubs that winter boots had for the elastic ice grippers but I made them work. I've taken to wearing these every day, probably until spring.
