I can’t get this trap to set. It collapses immediately every time I try. Is it defective?

Is this big enough for a porcupine?

I have the same trap that I bought at a local farm store for half the price. Had to make some adjustments by bending the rod and the hook. I have caught 8 squirrels and two groundhogs. The last groundhog was really a big one and he tore a hole in the corner of the cage approximately 4 by 4 inches. I used my plyer's and fixed it.
