Pastor Kyle went all the way in!
My friend told me that she started reading this book and got addicted by just reading the prologue. I didn't think twice to put in my order. I couldn't wait so I downloaded the Kindle version. I'm writing a book and was deciding to take out some things because I didn't want to seem too harsh. Once I began reading this book (the same night that I was going to change my book) Pastor Kyle gave me confirmation. Jesus isn't playing with us. He doesn't like for us to be lukewarm Christians. He sacrificed His life for us. We ought to do the same for Him. He wants our whole heart. God has opened up my eyes this year. I've really gained a more personal revelation of Him. Coming to realization of what He did for me, gives me all the reason to go hard for Him. Running to the altar for salvation and then, leaving unchanged is not His will for our lives. God requires for us to take up our crosses daily and follow after Him. The Holy Spirit convicted me through "not a fan." We all have our days and moments of fandom no matter how hard we go for our faith in Jesus Christ. There's always room for spiritual growth. We can never stop learning and being convicted. I've been thinking so hard after reading this book. Asking God to reveal to me areas that need improvement. My relationship with God has developed greatly and there's nothing more in this world that I cherish more than God. I'm so thankful for Jesus and all that He's done for me. I'm thankful for Pastor Kyle for obeying the Lord and writing this book no matter how harsh it seems. We need conviction not just motivation. Loving the humor too. I was cracking up LOL but then, I got serious thinking about all that Jesus did for us. Pastor K really has a great understanding of the Gospel. He broke down scriptures and stories and made them come alive. I love learning from other believers, especially those that have been in the faith walk longer than I. I'll be honest. Next to the bible, this is the best book I ever read. He kept it real and straightforward. We need to give our all. Jesus gave His LIFE! I'm Jennifer Quetant and I am NOT a fan.

A message we need to hear over and over
Not a Fan is a Christian living book arguing that Jesus isn't interested in fans, but in followers. Coming from a family where I could have taken "Christian" as a nominal inheritance (but didn't want to) I was very interested in this book. I rate my experience with Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman 4/5 stars—I really liked it.Kyle Idleman's message in Not a Fan reminds me of David Platt's message (but not his style) which I have appreciated over and over. It's the message that many who think and call themselves Christians will one day be surprised to hear Christ say He never knew them. That's because there's a subtle but eternally important difference between a fan of Jesus who cheers him on "from the sidelines"and a follower who personally, daily, and entirely follows a Savior who served and suffered. This is the message of Not a Fan, and I'm convinced it's one that we would do well to hear over and over. There were a few stylistic choices that I didn't like so much, which vary in their importance. Most notably, I sometimes felt that Kyle Idleman was poking fun at those he calls "fans" of Jesus when it is, in fact, a very tragic and sobering subject. I thought he was spot on when he called this group of people delusional, but at times he seemed to tease and ridicule them, which I didn't appreciate. On a less important note, I felt like he overused the literary device of starting consecutive sentences with the same phrase. It's very effective when used in moderation, but I admittedly got tired of it in Not a Fan. Much to the author's credit, however, his book was packed with powerful analogies and examples that I wish I could remember in the future. In summary, Not a Fan by Kyle Idleman promotes a good, much-needed message and has just a few stylistic choices I didn't like. I appreciated it and would read it again and recommend it to just about any Christian. That's 4/5 stars for my experience of the book.

Very thought-provoking
I admit this book strips the excuses and compromises back until you realize how many idols you have in your life. But isn't that a good thing? Difficult to face but don't just take cough medicine to stop coughing. When you are covering up the reason you are coughing - you have lung cancer! The reason we are stressed, not sleeping, not happy is sin. An idol is something or someone we have made more important than obedience to God! This book clearly defines a Fan of Jesus versus a Jesus Follower. Which are you?

Life-changing book
Read this book. It will challenge your lifestyle. At first it will bombard you with descriptions of what a 'fan' is and what a 'follower' is, but towards the end it will encourage you that being a genuine follower of Jesus is not an impossible thing to do.I give it 4 stars because a lot of the information is redundant, and you just want to tell the author, "Yes, OK, I GET IT. Now what?" But he keeps drilling down on the distinctions of 'fan' and 'follower.' It's not until the very end that he gives a direct call to action and a lifting of the burden imposed by 95% of the book.

Diving Deeper Into What It Means to Be a Follower of Jesus
Most Christians fully believe that when they come to Christ, they are a follower of Jesus & in a sense, they are. But upon closer inspection, what you find is the heart of a fan instead of a heart of a follower. What does it mean to truly follow Jesus? To give up everything because he's the only thing that truly matters? This book digs into these and many other questions; and it give you a lot to ponder & chew on in your faith journey.

A Good read and a big Challenge!
After reading this book, I was forced to face the most challenging question I believe a Christian can ask, "Am I a follower of Jesus or just a fan?" The difference between the two answers as far as the author is concerned is a matter of life or death! I'm not so sure that I agree entirely, though, I would advocate that the difference between a mere Christian, (Someone who has put his/her trust in Christ's finished work on the cross for Salvation), and a Disciple is vast to say the least.I do believe that in order to become a true Disciple, then, according to Luke 9:23, that the Believer must have a full surrender and dying to self experience. The author ably describes what the true life of Discipleship looks like and what it will mean for anyone to take up their cross and follow Christ. This is a challenging read, but to read this book and leave it down without making a choice between mere Christianity and Discipleship is not a choice!Read it if you dare!

Essential reading!
Wow! A must read for all new and experienced followers of Christ. Suggested by a Pastor who visited us from America, this book made me and my husband take a serious look at our commitment to Jesus and how much we actually do to serve Him.

Great book !!!!
Brilliant book!!! It has really hit many truths about the difference between a Christian and a Real Christian. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is just beginning a new journey in Christ or anyone who has been a Christian for a long time but don't feel they are bearing fruits, For the bible says in Matthew 7 that you can identify true believers by there fruits. I believe its a great tool to get your focus right, to get back on the right path.Easy read as Kyle Idleman is funny. He is definitely straight to the point but give worldy examples, which I think is superb, the decribe his points.Loved this book !!
