It sounds very good for electric guitars and basses. It has a passive/active switch, JFET input optimized for electric guitar and a the Z-Tone knob - a variable impedance control that adjusts the way a guitar or bass interacts with its pickups. This allows for a wider range of tones and more control over the sound. The Z-Tone knob adjusts the impedance from 1 MOhm ("sharp") to 2.2 kOhms ("bold") At the maximum impedance, the sound is tighter, sharper, and more precise Increasing the load makes the sound thicker and bolderI bought this Axe I/O One for a friend to use for headphone practice using Tonex.I was surprised that it appears to be the same in every way except the additional mic input.The bundled AmpliTube 5 SE and Tonex SE was the same, the specs appear to be the same.
