How many inches of padding?

This is a phenomenal bench for the price. I weigh close to 300 pounds and have zero complications with this bench supporting my fat ass. As for how many inches of padding? Well, less than an inch. But just why in the world are you interested in inches of padding? That escapes me. If you want fulff that is one thing. If you want a quality bench, this is it.

Does the cushion soften with use/time?

I initially said I don't know the answer because I don't play the piano anymore. cannot sit without back support. The piano belongs to my younger son - when he is here he plays as does his niece, my granddaughter. It does not appear flattened and both my son and granddaughter sit on it with no complaints.

How much weight will this bench support. Would it be ok for someone 300 pounds?

It's 396 lbs (around 180 kg); it will be OK for someone who weighs 300 pounds (136 kg). Hope this helps.
