FILCOMajestouch Ninja (Cherry MX Red) Keyboard

I used many mechanical keyboards for over 10 years, such as Razer blackwidow, keyboards from Cherry, logitech G keyboard, Ducky Shine, cheaper mechanical keyboards. This is by far the best keyboard I've gotten. Feels very good and also made me hit 20 wpm faster on typeracer fresh out of the box!

I just got one of these gorgeous keyboards this week. This is my first Filco, and it is replacing a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate with Cherry MX Blues that I have had for about two years.I'm a programmer, and I'm on my computer and typing frenetically pretty much all of the time. After several years of using "clacky" mechanicals, I was a little hesitant to get the non-tacticle, lighter action of the red switches. That turned out to be a misplaced concern.Most people who make a similar transition say that there is a period where there accuracy goes down, but for me, my accuracy and speed went up almost on the spot. I've heard people say that the Majestouch 2 soft linear is "like typing on water", which is surely an exaggeration, but not much of one. It really is the smoothest and fastest keyboard I've used. However, if you have an especially heavy typing style, you may need to adjust to the lighter action, since otherwise you will bottom out on every stroke and that would defeat the benefit of the reds.It's worth pointing out that although this keyboard isn't completely silent, if you make an effort not to bottom out, it is much, much quieter than Brown or Blue switches will ever be. If you are considering a Brown-based "Stealth" keyboard primarily for the noise reduction over blues, I would recommend going for the reds instead, especially if you don't jackhammer the keys.On to the keyboard itself. This board is the "Ninja" variation, with the front-facing key labels. The reason for doing this is to reduce wear on the labels, especially for ABS caps like this keyboard has. But the Blackwidow this is replacing also had ABS Caps, although because it is backlit, the labels are not printed, and so cannot be worn off. My Blackwidow's caps themselves are also still in great shape after two years of daily use. Whether or not this keyboard will wear as well remains to be seen. My general impression is that the caps are not as high quality as those on the BlackWidow, but many mechanical buyers will get a set of custom PBT caps anyway.It's very nice having a no-frills keyboard with a base that snugs right up against the keys again. On the Blackwidow, I lost count of the number of times I hit the lowest macro key instead of left CTRL when I first got it. Macro and media keys strike me as, well, bad, and I'm very happy to be rid of them. Now the backlight, on the other hand, I was sure I'd miss, mostly for sporadic use at night when I'm not typing long enough for touch typing to matter. But it doesn't seem to matter even then. So I would say even if you're used to a backlight, you may find that you won't miss it.The "Ninja" layout may have a gimmicky name, but in person, it's actually quite handsome. It makes you wonder why this hasn't been a standard layout all along. Under normal lighting conditions, it may even be more legible than the standard layout, while also looking less cluttered. I would probably recommend this over the standard layout.The keyboard has a nice heft, and build quality seems very high. The Backspace key squeaks a little bit if not pressed in the dead center (possibly a variant of the Filco "ping" issue?), but other than that, there is no wobble or grit or noise or any problem with the action anywhere.I believe this keyboard uses Filco stabilizers for large keys, and Cherry stabilizers for everything else. This is in contrast to certain Coolermaster mechanicals, which use very highly regarded Costar stabilizers, and the Blackwidow, which I believe uses iOne stabilizers. The Blackwidow developed a well-known "double or nothing" problem on certain keys, which I have read can be attributed to their choice of stabilizer. I wouldn't know anything about all that, but hopefully the Filco stabilizers won't have that same problem.Overall, I'm extremely happy with this keyboard. Giddy, actually. I'm sometimes motivated to code something just because it'd be fun to type, as weird as that may be, and this keyboard triggers that effect on a daily basis. If you're only used to blues, give this a try! If you've never had a mechanical before, definitely give this a try! Given how important your keyboard is, the cost is basically nothing. I see a lot of people complaining about the price of Filcos over other mechanicals, but relistically you're looking at a difference of $50 at most, amortized over a couple years. Just get the Filco.

I just had to counter one aspect of the keyboard, to give a reality check about those gushing about this keyboard like they were positively reviewing a porn movie.Yes, the top surface (only) of the keycaps are nice. You bet. But, hello, there's a thing called the *edge* of the keycap (where the top meets the side of the caps). And that edge ain't nutt'n special. It's as garden-variety uncomfy sharp-edged as most. Unfortunately. And though most endure it, some with sensitive fingers won't dig it, just like they dislike same on a number of ABS plastic keycaps. SMH.p.s. For all the hype about front-printed keycap legends, they were too difficult to spot for me. So although I'm a touch typist and don't need to see the most commonly used keys' legends, when I do need to see the much lessor used symbols, it would slow me down too much to move my eyes closer and squint (esp under low lighting environments) to make out what the hell those legends are. I returned the board after less than an hour's use.

I am somewhat of a keyboard collector. And I am, to a fault, always looking for another mechanical keyboard experience. The keyboard I have in front of me now is the subject of this review which will undoubtedly be the highlight of my day.First impressions are WOW. Aesthetics are clean, sleek, and professional. The board will turn heads because of how clean and simple it is in a market over taken by the flashy and over the top keyboards. The thin bezels, front printed keycaps, the simple LED's and the modest branding on the board all come together to fit a full sized keyboard into the smallest and most attractive package possible.Construction:The board is built better than a tank. Despite being composed of all plastic, it feels like your holding a a large piece of mahogany wood in your hands. Dense and hefty without feeling hollow inside. The key caps are super nice. I think they are made from PBT but if it's ABS then its the nicest ABS I have ever touched. Thick and sturdy with no welding marks or loose dangling chips. Just amazing. The cable is a nice sturdy plastic sleeved wire that is attached to the board. Despite what popular reviewers say, braided cables are overatted and I don't consider it a pro when reviewing a board. There are flip out feet that have rubber on them as well which is a huge bonus. I don't know why more keyboard don't put rubber on the flip out stands.Typing experience/Switches:Since I have like 7 other MX Blue switch keyboards I figured I would get my first MX Brown board with this Filco. It feels amazing. The experience is truly one of a kind I believe. So good that I am tempted to get ANOTHER Filco with Blue switches. However I do think the brown switches are perfect for this board in particular. They don't make a sound. Because of the dense construction, an aggressive key press comes out feeling responsive and tactile and the sound is very low pitched and has a lot of "bass". With the "ninja" key caps it really is a stealthy experience that is pretty addicting. I much prefer MX blues over any of the MX switch line up but honestly I am addicted to typing on this thing. I just love it. The strokes feel so natural and light and despite it feeling like im pecking away at nothing, the sound is so deep and rich. I really can't say enough good things about it.Features:This board comes with practically no features. And while that is a bit of a disappointment coming from some other feature rich boards like Das and the likes, I really don't mind as this boards objective is to be compact and clean. Which it does better than any other board. This is a board you could take into any professional or casual environment and feel comfortable and proud using without feeling like you're missing out on something.Final thoughts:Diatec isn't a company that's been reinventing the wheel every year to keep up with consumer demands. They have a formula and are sticking to it. The Majestouch-2 is a masterpiece. It's clean and functional and more importantly the typing experience is wonderful. The only feature I am wishing I had was a detachable USB cable. Other than that I hope this keyboard never changes and they keep making more. If you are a keyboard enthusiast like me or are looking for your first mechanical keyboard, just get this. Get this and don't feel like you're missing out because you don't have dedicated media keys or macros or back lighting or a USB hub. Once you type on this thing, none of those features will be worth it on other boards.Personal modifications:While the keycaps are nice I went ahead and ordered a set of really think PBT caps for it and I have no doubt it will take the experience to a level I have yet to reach in my hunt for a good typing experience. I will update this review when I get those.

I have now purchased this keyboard twice. The first time was in 2012 and I used it for just over 10 years, it was very reliable and pleasant to use. Finally after 10 years one of the switches failed and that button would not work at all anymore. I must admit I spilled drinks and food into this keyboard several times over the years, each time I took it apart and cleaned inside and it still worked fine. I am guessing if I had never spilled drinks into this keyboard, it would probably still be working perfectly even after 10 years. If you are more careful than me and you do not spill drinks/food into the keyboard, I am guessing it will last almost forever.I was so happy with the keyboard during those years that when it finally did fail after 10 years and some abuse, I decided to just buy the exact same keyboard again. The new one looks and feels just as great and seems like it will probably last for at least 10 years again. I highly recommend Filco and this keyboard.

I gave my older model Filco blue switch keyboard to my husband, when he accidentally wrecked his own keyboard. He hated the new one he purchased (different brand). Afterwards, I was kicking myself for letting my Filco go. No other keyboard compares, at least for me. Super happy about this one, as it's just as good as the older model. Fantastic!

I am buying the keyboard for my kid and she likes this keyboard very much because I have the exact same one and she likes the cool outlook of it, no printing on the keys which made it looks cool.While it is pricey, I spent one hundred more than the one I purchased several years before.

Desconozco si hay teclados mejores por el mismo precio, pero este presenta una calidad y una robustez increibles. El ultimo teclado de otra marca me duro 5 años con uso diario y ya presentaba signos de desmejora, (teclas desgastadas, material de goma estropado por las esquinas, etc). Este tiene pinta de que puede durar toda la vida intacto.Tiene las switch brown, que segun dicen es una mezcla idonea para jugar y escribir. Yo lo uso para programar y es perfecto, eso si, al principio te tienes que hacer al ANSI americano, pero una vez te acostumbras es muchisimo mas comodo que el QWERTY español.
