Q: Can this be worn without a piercing?

No. It's designed for piercing. If you don't want to get pierced, check out faux earrings. They make non piercing cartilage rings that would work for a temporary nose ring also.

Q: How does the nose ring go in? Do you have to shove the ball on the end through your piercing?

You most certainly won't have to shove the ball end through the nose piercing. The other end should slide through the piercing just fine. It is meant to be used that way.

Hi there! The little ball end goes into the nose from the outside. That little ball acts as a stopper so hoop won’t fall out. The little gem will sit up at top of piercing. Because the little ball end acts as a stopper on inside of nose, the gem will stay put, and not slide around. Hope this helps!

it’s not a clamp on but you could probably use it as one, the only thing is it has a ball at the end meant for piercings to not slip out and it might show if you just try to clamp it. i would try going for ones without the ball even if they aren’t faux they’re basically the same! i hope that helped :)
