This is a great book if you have little or no knowledge of the natural dye process. The perfect little book for beginners or anyone looking for a fresh perspective on the natural dye process.

I bought this book for my daughter who farms heritage breed sheep and wants to dye their wool using her own plants. I am the gardener and artist so this book will be a good resource for both of us to learn what to grow and how to use the plant materials. I love how well laid out the book is. The photographs are beautiful and assist in understanding the process. Chris the author does a lovely job in following through on her intentions to create a book that will inspire and support many creators. I can't wait to give this to my daughter for Christmas and get planting in the spring. I also commend the author for selecting an earth friendly printer in Canada!

I would recommend this book to anyone just starting out on botanical dying. It’s very nicely produced and has a lot of good information. I’m in the process of researching and has not yet put anything into practice YET! A nice book to have in my studio library.

This is a lovely little book that is great for beginners, homeschoolers, or kitchen dyers. It has a great variety of things to dye with and some basic explanations. For deeper understanding and more variety of procedures with a given dye I recommend Jenny Dean's book - Wild Color. I also am disappointed that there was no errata sheet ever given with this publication. The photo on page 112 should correctly have been given to Ercil Howard-Wroth. From speaking with her it is my understanding that the permission for use was a correct credit to the work done for the author. This kind of thing always makes me a little sour towards the author and publisher. Books like this don't need sourness they should be an absolute thing of joy.

I am thoroughly enjoying A Garden to Dye For by Chris McLaughlin, I'll have to admit the name and the front cover got me right away, but once I stepped inside I was amazed. Being an avid gardener but totally new to the whole process of dyeing, I was very thankful to start out learning specific terminology right away. The book is exactly what I had hoped for, coming from a gardener/new to dyeing perspective. Now I feel as though my garden, NO my entire yard, can be utilized on another level and I'll get to enjoy another creative hobby! I can honestly say I'll feel at ease to start a project, with my book close at hand of course. The added bonus to this book (besides all the new found knowledge) are the amazing photographs and inspiration! Thank YOU Chris, it certainly is a book to "dye" for!

A nice little book, but somehow I wanted more. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, but as a gardener, I don't want to know how to grow certain plants that I already have growing. I expected to learn more about the colours on the front of the book, which I did find a little misleading. You may be able to achieve that deep purple, but it's probably migratory, which is to say far from permanent. I just wanted more information and expected the book to be bigger, in so many ways. I will keep it for reference, but I'm sure there is a better book for me.
