Good Inexpensive Wind Speed Meter
I am a ham radio operator and participate in local CERT and ARES activities. One of these is SkyWarn, in conjunction with the National Weather Service. The NWS has radar and weather stations around the area but they also depend on trained observers to spot and report severe weather. As a storm spotter, one of the most difficult things to estimate based on visual observations alone is wind speed. Even trained spotters tend to over-estimate wind speed based on visuals alone. An inexpensive tool like this makes taking an accurate reading of wind speed and direction simple. It comes in a handy nylon pouch, with enough extra room for a small ruler (for accurately measuring the size of hail) and a compass. I keep one handy in my vehicle so that I'm prepared to spot when storms are in the area.

Fun to experiment with; results seem reasonable and repeatable
I bought these because I always wanted one but I've been able to do some experiments to validate some things. For example, I can tell the difference in air speed of a 4" versus 6" duct and the air speed between a fiberglass and "allergy" air filter.I have no idea how scientifically precise it is but the results seem reasonable. The blades seem well balanced and respond to light air flow and seemingly minor changes in air speed. The only thing I wished is that the display backlight would stay on longer but really I have no complaints.BT recommended

Large Wind Guage
Large. Accurate, light weight for its size. Temp seems pretty close (I don't have the specs here). I use it for ballistic calculations. Seems well built.

Nifty Little Gadget, but Don't Expect Much from the Temperature Readout
BT-100 "Pro" (yeah, right) Anemometer via AmazonI purchased this inexpensive anemometer (wind speed gauge) via Amazon. No, I have no immediate nor practical need for a hand-held (or capable of being mounted to a tripod) wind speed meter. I simply thought it would be fun to have. And it was cheap. The wind speed measurement is very responsive. The temperature reading is slow to acclimate, and after nearly ten minutes outdoors in 45˚F the temperature continued to register in the mid-50s.Is the wind speed reading accurate? How should I know? I guess I could buy another anemometer and compare them, but even then, how would I know which one is accurate? Or if either one is accurate. But you can certainly look "pro" striding about on a hike through rugged terrain and periodically pulling this baby out of a belt pouch to take a reading. A star for "style points" makes up for the loss of a star for the lousy temperature gauge, resulting in a solid FIVE STAR score.

It also fun
We bought this to check wind speeds to see if it is safe to pull our travel trailer.

Not everything worked as advertised
This review is for the BTMETER BT-100WMThis anemometer seemed to work okay but the altimeter didn't work. I manually calibrated the barometer and the altimeter wouldn't adjust to my altitude. In fact, it showed me at 0 feet even though I'm at over 1000' in elevation. I contacted the manufacturer support and they advised that it should "self calibrate".It didn't.The included batteries died within a couple of hours of use. So I put fresh batteries in it and left it on for two more hours on my desk and the barometer changed with the atmospheric pressure changes but the altimeter didn't change at all. Still showed me at sea level. And there's no way to manually modify your altitude.I did originally buy this for the wind speed measurement but the other features advertised are equally important to me for what I needed to use it for. Also, it's a little too challenging to change the batteries. They provide you with the needed screw driver but those little screws are bound to get dropped or lost. And then once you get them out, it's not easy to remove the battery cover. It's kind of frustrating to be honest. They should have just put a standard push down and slide it off type cover.Overall, the unit is lightweight, compact, and the other features seemed to work okay, I bought it for all of the features advertised, and they didn't all work.Maybe the one I received just had this one flaw and the others are fine.
