Yukon Charlie's Collapsible Snow Shovel, Lightweight Snow Shovel for Camping, Car, Emergency Kit

Unlike most reviewers, I specifically purchased this to get sand off of mountain bike trails where I ride. I was looking for something that would easily lash to a backpack, and not get in the way. This shovel fits the bill. Despite it's cheap construction, it actually held up well to the abuse of scraping sand (and mixed in gravel) off of the trail. The expansion/collapsing of the handle can be confusing, but it works. And yes, sand does get in the handle assembly, making it stick. A good rinse out with water takes care that. Oh, it's doesn't collapse down to 13" with the handle (more like 17"). If you want it down to 13", you have to completely remove the handle. Overall, I would rate this as a good shovel for occasional or emergency use. However, if you require long term durability, you may be better served by something a little higher up the price ladder.

I bought one and it got damaged, so I was pretty bummed. I like the design, the handle end at the shovel actually goes under it to support it. The most common problem with these shovels is the neck breaking. By having the handle extend under and past the neck there is some support, which greatly reduces the chance of breakage. I have done some pretty seriously shoveling at camp with these and they do very well. A longer handle wold be nice though.

It is what I thought. Light, small shovel for my snow machine. Can't get crazy with it but taking my time it does dig my machine out with just having to have a small place to store it. Nice emergency shovel.

This shovel is sturty and light and just throw it in the back floor for when you get stuck!

Husband coincidentally needed it the first day out and it worked perfectly!

Light weight

It indeed is light & compact. Too light I fear. It feals like if I were to put some back into shoveling with this thing, it will fold like a cheap spoon into hard ice cream. It is rattly, not tight, YUKON is half painted on. I guess I shouldn’t have expected much for $35, but this thing is junk. Now I have to decide whether to go through the hassle of returning it or keep it as an emergency backup. I don’t know how this piece of junk made it up to “Best Selling”, maybe people aren’t actually using it, or maybe people are so weak it doesn’t matter how thin the shovel is? Another bummer…
