Great for beginners or Quick Reference
This book contains many comprehensive examples provided in a well-thought-out chapter sequence. Super helpful, would recommend for anyone who studies Electrical/Computer Hardware engineering.

Colleges should adopt this book for digital circuits!
Best introduction to Verilog I've come across. You can also watch online videos covering many topics. This should be the go to text for any college course covering digital circuits!

eh...
This covers a lot more on digital circuit theory and digital systems design theory instead of syntax associated with Verilog and VHDL based on the title. Questionable presentation at best.

Impossible to understand
A truly terrible book for self-study. No editing, and the explanation is inscrutable. The book starts out with a lengthy description of logic circuits, De-Morgan's laws which are just as easily obtained elsewhere. And then it dives into many specific circuits: adders, muxes. This part with specific circuits is genuinely useful, if a reader reaches it.This book might work great as a companion to an in-person course. If you are hoping to go through it independently, be aware that you're going to be frustrated. Unfortunately, there is no other, better, introductory text so you're stuck with this. A different organization, expecting the reader to understand binary logic separately and then driving into fabricating specific logic / arithmetic segments with FPGA would be more to the point. Frankly, not every circuit needs a Verilog simulation. 4-to-1 MUX, for example, has a Verilog program. Even though I'm new to it, I can see why that assign statement does the right thing. Then there are segments that need deeper explanation but don't quite get it.The problem sets are beneficial, though they suffer from the same dense wording which hampers progress.

Book is almost outdated; No Responses Received From Author on Web Site
I've just begun to work my way through this book, so I will update my review upon completion. Initial experience is that the appendix that takes you through a Vivado project is minimal. I have used Vivado in the past, so it wasn't so new to me, but may be a bit more challenging to the newcomer. Downloading the material on the web site is less than intuitive. There is not section specific to this book that I can find. I "think" I have the correct material and should be able to work my way through the book with the aid of other material I have. Unfortunately, the author does not return emails to requests for information nor is Digilent offering the book any longer. So, I suspect that the author has moved on to other ventures. Again, I will post a complete review once I complete the book. For now, three stars for the lack of support. That could be improved depending on my experience.
