Great "primer" for a curious good witch or religions student.
I first read this book when it first came out and I was a young girl experimenting with all sorts of spiritual paths. It provided me with an interesting viewpoint of the common practices of this particular sect of modern witchcraft (for lack of a better term). It's well worth picking up even if you are simply curious. For those theist choosing the path of the ancient ones aka Gods/Goddesses it will serve as a wonderful and informative practical manual on how to go solo or form a coven, and then how to set up an altar, cast a safe circle for practicing magic, and calling the spirits to protect your sacred space. There are songs and prayers within, as well as guides to various sorts of magic and what to expect when you start out trying to harness that magic. It's also a humorous and fun fact filled book for forum trolling Atheists to add to their arsenal.

One of the best introductions to Wicca out there
After "The Spiral Dance", this is the best introduction to Wicca I've seen. If it weren't out of print, I'd assign it to all my first-year Wiccan students. Since it is, it's in my 2nd/3rd degree curriculum instead. (See [...] for more information.)Janet and Stewart Farrar were two of the most influential writers on Wicca in the '80s & '90s - for very good reason. Even though Stewart died in 2000, their books are still among the best Wiccan references available.
